For questions about the event or discussion about technical details, please use the official event thread instead.

Note: Spoilers related to gift boxes are against event rules. Please refrain from any comments that could be used to identify the contents of any gift box.

(cg has confirmed that there is no inherent way of associating a gift box with its creator.)

I personally thought there might be some interest in a thread for hyping what giveaways we've put up and (eventually) what we've won, for discussing holiday gift box designs, or just for friendly holiday banter in general.
Well, uh.. have at it, if you want to, maybe, I guess?

Here's a little something to keep your attention. ^.^

Ha I just saw someone created a Hellraiser puzzle box.... Now i want to find some Christmas paper that looks like that....

Well, hey. If all you want is a hellraiser wrapping paper, you just needta take pictures of your kids [or pictures of them from when they were younger] and slap those all around the package. If you and your immediate family members don't have kids, there's always the option to use your own childhood photos. :P

...okay, I guess you did mean something else, but you can't argue that it wouldn't be Christmasy!

Why is the Don't Open Trash Inside box gone now though, was such a good design. :(

So much baiting going on with cool games as covers and actual trash inside. It wasn't funny the first time, guess what, it isn't funny the second, third, fourth or fifth time you pull this "joke" either. Guess I don't get the appeal of cheap trolling for shits and giggles, but whatever floats your boat, man.

Yeah, it's becoming the dominant theme of boxes by this point. At least cg retweaked things so that blacklists should work with the event, again. It seems they'll be necessary, if we want to actually have a chance of participating in it in a manner close to what's intended.

Honestly, you could pass it off as a tastless gag if there were legitimate games inside, but putting actual trashware up is already trolling the event even before you make the covers misleading.

I'm glad we have at least some way to deal with those users. I don't like blacklisting anyone, but one user in particular has wasted a lot of my chances already. Doing it once is kind of an "ok, sure get it out of your system" kind of deal, but repeatedly misleading users and wasting their very limited chances for something they may actually want just comes across to me as mean spirited.

Well, to rephrase what you're saying- oneself can excuse basic immaturity, but deliberate sabotage requires a certain type of focus and intent at any age or cognition level, so any sort of justifications we can make end up hitting a wall by that point. Like, there's a clear difference between "Let's see what happens if I do this" and "Oh, I enjoy this sort of misbehavior, let me continue it with glee."

But yeah. Within many games and forums, block functions aren't necessarily related exclusively to the associated communication methods, but can often be a useful method for countering abusive actions related to game functions. For example, for quite a few MMORPGs accepting a group invite while in a [dungeon zone] will automatically boot you from that zone.
People spam-inviting blindly are obviously going to need to be blocked [regardless of if they're doing it because they're immature and new to such games, or out of deliberate intent], else you've no chance at participating properly in basic gameplay [heck, even just the pop-up can often be enough to sabotage your play, within those games where it isn't an auto-boot].
That's the same consideration being made here, there's nothing at all inappropriate (or rather, anything to be at all hesitant for) about blacklisting for such reasons. That is of course just looking at it from the mechanical perspective, before at all evaluating the underlying character of the individual involved.

I also just added a user to my blacklist for wasting my boxes. I generally appreciate all giveaways but the trash games get in the way of enjoying the event :[

Oh no Pete, actually, I had you in mind for the opposite scenario, because your "don't open, trash inside" box was a pleasant surprise of underpromising but overdelivering! I wish there was more of that kind of thing (maybe there is?) but I haven't been as lucky so far.

That moment in a tabletop RPG where your party member attacks a far superior opponent, and the opponent oh-so-slowly takes notice of it. :P

Funnily enough, it's been the same user every time for me,

It seems to be the same small group of users (thankfully and unsurprisingly). Now that blacklisting should work on the vent again, we should be able to mostly counter the behavior.

that's... fair, imo. wanted to do that, but then saw wasn't that original, as an idea.

true, first time is funny second one is quickly "meh"
still, i don't think there's even just one box "labelled" as "factorio!" containing Factorio ;-)

It should be possible to leave. As the boxes stay opened...

They're just normal invite-only giveaways, with a special entry filter. Think of them as being comparable to SGTools-protected giveaways.

You can freely reopen your boxes once you've opened them the first time but they're quite the challenge to refind, so it's worth making an effort not to lose track of the giveaway pages for any boxes you pull out of.

Secret Santa was one of my favorite events during the Holidays. I wish there was a 5 Point requirement for giveaways.

If you're referring to the holiday box event, it's probably more comparable to White Elephant than to Secret Santa, since the latter is based in a specific sender with a known recipient while the prior is based in randomized pairing (and is more prone to gag gifts).

Filtering out DLCs and low cost giveaways probably would curtail a lot of the abusive postings currently being listed, sure, but those who are engaging in the practice are likely to work around any barriers without too much concern.. Unfortunately, trashware isn't limited to low retail value listings, and the individuals in question seem rather motivated to spoil the event as best as they're able.

Has anyone else noticed how out of control the number of giveaways has become? We're at over 1500 giveaways and the events only been going for about 6 days. By the time the event end I expect there to be over 5000 games at this rate.

It's slowing down though, I check daily and it went from 25+ pages of new ones to 15ish. But new trash bundles might make things go faster again.

I've kinda started to wish that the amount of holiday boxes one user could make would be limited. In some instances it feels like people are creating boxes rather than just regular giveaways. Week late to reply but now I'm feeling it.

I find this a super cool idea. But at this point I had only entered for one game. Its fun to pick presents but most of the times its just uninteresting stuff (for me).
But here again a big, warm thank you to all the generous people that keep on giving and actually doing the wraping work to make others smile :)

There are some cool ones out there, usually I have a chuckle when I see what is inside of it.
I had curiosity get the better of me a few times and "wasted" opening on a few of them.

But then again, - I - pick the boxes, so can't really complain about that.

TL;DR- OH WOW HOT CHICK - click - Oh hentai.. umm okay, could be expected shrug
