i know that but it still wasn't so obvious to me. just because someone creates a trend or genre doesn't mean it cannot be improved upon. thanks for the recommendation though.

Well, considering the original idea that Rocket had DayZ is not only the game/mod that started it all but hasn't been improved by anyone yet with the only difference that other games run and perform better, cause the devs are slow as fuck.
All the other games that spawned out of the trend have been designed to be more casual. DayZ is not only survival but also a simulation which no other game has been able to replicate imo.

Minecraft? Right....lets all forget about Infiniminer.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yes, sure but to say Minecraft started it all is silly when it was the idea and inspiration he got from Infiniminer to actually make Minecraft.
No Infiniminer = No Minecraft.
Comment has been collapsed.
What, no. That's like saying pong started it all..
Comment has been collapsed.
I disagree.
You should probably look into the history of Minecraft.....
Comment has been collapsed.
Hillary.. Look.. Minecraft is a survival/crafting game, infiniminer is a team based competative game with blocks. It doesn't matter minecraft ripped it.
It is not the game that popularized the survival/crafting genre. Period.
Comment has been collapsed.
It really didn't do anything and I really don't get the obsession but yeah its popular, so were tons of games with these functions...
Lets not act like games didn't have any surivial/crafting before it now, hell I would go as far to say MANY games including ones like older resident evils had survival down pat, way to many games had crafting, no point touching that.
Just my view, you don't have to agree....so don't act all mighty saying "Hillary.. Look...", you ain't gonna change how I see it buddy....
Also it was inspired from Infiniminer, that's really all I said in other words its not like it was super unique...

Hillary, look... You don't have to agree with me either, but the amount of survival games that have been released post-minecraft is not simply a coincidence.
Im not saying minecraft did anything first. It did however popularize and revitalize the survival/bushcraft genre as we know it today.

Whatever you say, we disagree, still feels like your trying to convince me of something, so yeah I disagree, if Minecraft didn't happen I am sure there would most likely be another that took off survival games, its my view, okay?
-_-

Can't even accept another persons view, yeah end of transmission indeed.
Lmao

Glad it seems mostly everyone else see's Minecraft really wasn't the firsy ;-)!

Kinda disgusts me, because Lego was making games before Minecraft but never went the pure building route.. I'm still convinced that the whole Minecraft-genre should have been started by Lego.. :>

For any interested in (real) roguelikes, can't miss CataclysmDDA.. Its got a TON of content, and you can peek at its github to see its being improved upon and changed daily :) Its even got some decent tilesets now, too..
And.. its free :>

i played dayz mod, i liked the pvp but zombies are terrible! Is the standalone zombies any better?
Comment has been collapsed.
why? i notice you don't have any of the games i mentioned so i' m just curious why you'd recommend it

I've seen some Rust and DayZ gameplay, but 7 days is the only one out of those 3 that I actually played and the only one I really like. I bought it at the beginning of summer sale and already played for more than 80 hours. It's just so much fun and there's always stuff to do.

nice to hear! it's actually on sale right now so that it makes this purchase a bit more intriguing than usual. most discussions i come across about this genre consist of people just yelling day z and rust back and forth.

I'm in the same boat as Defias, but I've owned 7 Days for over a year and have over 200 hours logged. They completely overhauled the graphics and the crafting system since I started playing and there is more work planned. It's the only Early Access game I know that wasn't abandoned and might actually be finished one day. The only problem here is that I've really played 2 different games here: the original version and the HD overhaul and I kind of preferred the original, but that's a common problem with Early Access games with extended development periods.

Stomping Land. I don't care if you didn't mention it Haha! Dinosaurs ftw !:D

lol sorry i had never heard of it, thanks for the heads-up

The devs promised weekly updates for the Stomping Land. It's been 5 weeks since then without any communication. Feels like the developers have given up and taken the money.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah my friend was saying the same. Saying that, i'd rather a monthly updates if that be what it will turn into cause it means more time is spent instead of forcing for weekly updates. I guess we'll see what happens in duetime :)

If I was dev of one of them, at least I could sabotage the process to make things easier. Sadly, as it is, there's no friggin way to tell so early on the development cycle.

Survival games with PvP are the same in terms of "social dynamics". Even Nether is the same. Change "metal" in your second sentence to "guns" and that's Nether/DayZ.

i tried all of them
i am going to give you my answer
7 Days To Die - There is Tons and Tons to do , it's awesome how zombies are there, and how can you escape sometimes from them,it's great with freinds
DayZ- to be honest, i didn't try the game much, i got it like 5 days ago and i was out of house most of the time, NOW the game is unplayable, buggy and really buggy, it will turn out good , you can do lots of stuff but ONLY with friends, alone it's a walking simulator, with freinds it's .. alright,, after updates it will be great
Rust- it's awesome, pure awesomeness if there is no Hackers, or not much people in it,and with freinds it's heaven,BUT BUT BUT there is a sony game coming soon called "h1z1" which is literally the same as Rust but Free2play, so if it avoids being hack feast it will kill Rust. but for now being, Rust is awesome
so there you have it
For Now Time - Rust
For Times with freinds FunnyOnes - 7 days to die
For Future and yes future - DayZ

great comment, thanks for taking the time to write that up

well zombies can walk through walls, so in case you don't have a good gun or melee you are screwed,
and besides you can fall on un complete ladders, that buggy, it's not like i said of course, but like when you hit crossbow and you cannot pick arrow back, it's not even close to being a nearly alpha.
But you can have fun with friends, that's for sure

Rust, dayz is gonna take a looooong long time before its done.

Whats hard about it? He said it doesn't run.
It's sorta a piece of shit, that's probably why it doesn't run :-P

I'd say Rust. It seems the most fun with the crafting and other stuff. I seriously got bored of waiting for DayZ. It took over a year longer than what Dean first announced it would be releasing. And yet its still going to take another year to get into beta? And I haven't really seen much of 7 Days to Die. But, like someone else said; these games will soon die out.
Comment has been collapsed.
Rust is the best and will be much better soon(they are working a lot on it)
You can craft items and build houses and it has many servers with lot of mods.
Pvp oriented
7 days to die is harder in the beginning and you can craft more thing than rust(at the moment)but graphics arent as good as rust.
Pve oriented
I dont own dayz and dont want it(saw my friends playing.Lot of KOS or thiefs)
(Sorry for my bad english)

I know similar questions have been asked (not recently as far as I can tell though). I'm just curious about what everyone thinks about the progress being made on each of these titles. How are they coming along? I want to try something from this genre with a friend and I'm just trying to find the best investment in terms which game will end up being the nicest finished product. I'd really appreciate some insightful answers on this subject. Much love, SG.
