Basically people are accusing the creator of Depression Quest of acting unethically, however everything being said against her is currently being censored and removed from the internet including sites like YouTube and reddit.

I think this more a problem with game 'journalism' than her.

Gaming journalism is really just a fancy way of saying professional bloggers. They just blog about video games, rather than their favorite places to eat, or what that whore Cindy was wearing at the mall.

Well the issue here is the gaming journalist is not analogous to the general news sort of journalist. Typically, games press outlets like IGN and Gamespot are primarily review/score hubs when it comes to consumer interest; most people go to these sites to see how good the site says a specific game is. That's a completely different situation than a general journalism/news outlet like The New York Times or even HuffPo; people read these papers/websites specifically to read or watch videos pertaining to news or opinions on current events.

I'm not about to claim games journalism couldn't use a massive overhaul, but it shouldn't be judged based on the standards of mainstream journalism; they're completely different fields.

Is having sex for positive game reviews really that different than throwing money around, which seems to be standard practise?

My thoughts.. Wow much Ad Hominem, and quite honestly my belief is that self professed gamers are being played to a T. By becoming the Internets lightning rod of hate on purpose you will get a million times more coverage for your game than any so called sexual favor/hook up. With the game being free to play there is absolutely no financial risk (not that most, "gamers" follow through with any sort of boycott or ban) whatsoever by becoming the lightning rod of hate. End of story.
