Actually, that ping is wrong. For some reason, it always shows up wrong on speed tests, but when I'm playing CS:GO, I usually get ~100 ping.

~100 ping is bad in Europe, I have a horrible Internet by european standards and I get no more than 80 ping on any server in Europe (from Ireland to Russia).
At my relatives in Bucharest, I get <5 ping anywhere in Romania and <50 ping ANYWHERE in Europe, that's pretty neat.
I don't know if Europe just has a better Internet infrastructure or the US of A is suffering from the side effects of extreme capitalism.

I live in Canada, but far away from any city. My relatives which live in a nearby city can get a very decent internet service, but over here in the "wild", there are only two ISPs and both suck.

That makes sense, my neighbourhood is owned by our power plant and we are only allowed 2 ISPs here, one that has horrible stability at a decent speed and another (mine) that has horrible speed and the connection is not direct, it's made from a city 80km away, that's why I get about 10-20 extra ping everywhere.
It's kinda weird how 80km can increase the ping by 20, but the Atlantic ocean increases it by just 40 (I get 80-90 ping from UK and 120-400 ping from the USA)

Yikes. I can only imagine how bad it must be to download big games.

Evolve took me like 2 days to download...

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yes it is. :P
At least it's very stable (barely ever goes down) and it's unlimited, which is a massive plus from my previous service. And I download my games through the night, so that isn't a major issue. The thing I really miss is multiplayer gaming, though... As soon as I try playing a game with someone, I experience massive lag.

Wanted since ages but only bad net was around here as i living in a small village, well, its in a national park, so everything beautiful here, clear air, just bad net, or was, now i was able to choise 18mbit or 36mbit instead of the old 1mb and i need to pay about the half of the previous price:D well, choised the 18mbt because much higher will kill the HDD pretty fast anyway:-)

Welcome to the club! :) We even have gigabit Internet here. Unfortunately I live far from the center of the city, so I don't have access to that provider.
The upgrade you have made must be rather joyful. Congrats!
P.S. Because everyone shares their speed...

Yeah I just got a new 5tb hard drive also, surprisingly fast, benchmarked it, got 212mb/s average write and 202mb/s read....much better then my old 2tb green drive. Not near SSD but I am not up for that yet, need to go down in price, paid 140 for 5tb haha, mechanical drives are dirt cheap and actually fastish now O_O.

Yes! lol. One of the first things I did was load up a 1080p 60 FPS video. And I was so shocked, I didn't have to pause it and wait 10 or whatever minutes for it to load. Just pressed played and that was it.

I can't wait to watch E3 for the first time ever in all high quality and not lowest quality. lol
