Been playing Borderlands 2 with friends. Game is well received, quite fun and has been out for a long time. So, out of curiosity, to those people who have yet not played it. What is the reason?

Played it during the free weekend. Does that count?

I don't see why it wouldn't. Playing is playing, no matter is it during free weekend, while visiting friend or something like that.

Cheers! I was actually planning to get it but due to time constraints because of my work I'd find it difficult to play with friends and in my experience, this is one of those games that is infinitely more enjoyable to play with friends.

Borderlands only stays interesting (for me anyway) if I am cooping with friends... solo play is no where near as fun!

2 is better almost in every aspect. Borderlands 1 became a bit grindy, and boring after halfway (especially the DLCs, where there were no fast travel stations) through the story, but Borderlands 2 is better. It has better story, better levels and such. The GOTY is a really worthy package (but then you'll have to buy Headhunters 1-5 and UVHUP 2 for the full experience).

Same. It's a bit boring in my opinion. Don't get me wrong, it's an awesome game, but the missions are a bit too repetitive. But for playing it like 2 hours a week, it is really fun.

I've played half of it, boring and repetitive, lost any will to play quite soon. People hyped it so much I thought it was great, I was wrong ^^

I did play the first one on console, boring and repetitive but I completed it anyway. when I complained people said it was because I played it alone, played the second one with a friend, still boring :p

I tried the first game but it wasn't really my style. I mostly like to play by myself and the borderland series is meant to play with friends.

join the club :( isn't the game single player though?

Permalink

The story in theory was written for single-player, but the game is balanced for SP or co-op.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It can be played alone, but it's not very fun that way. It feels like it (and Borderlands 1 for that matter) were designed with co-op in mind

Permalink

sounds like the game isn't that great then, it's the friends that make the time fun not the game =P

Comment has been collapsed.

There are things in the game that makes it more fun with friends, things you can't do alone, or are harder to do alone. So I would not really say that it's a bad game, just that it's designed in such a way that makes it more fun with more people.

someday i might have a chance to play it for myself until that day I can't really rubbish it much i guess hopefully it better than what I think it is & there is some truth behind the hype

multi-player is optional... in fact best to avoid because the game has ganky enemy power scaling.

-edit
I only played co-op a few times because of the way scaling is handled in the game. Found both games to be better balanced for single player and never felt I missed anything by not playing co-op.

In co-op the enemies will always be scaled higher. If you do not mind the gap between player levels the scaling becomes even worse. Bosses become harder, while the normal enemies are tedious bullet sponges.

Of course, if you play in co-op is more funny.

I have played it, but it was not fun at all playing it alone, and I ended up giving up because the game forces you to play side quests to level up. I have already played borderlands 1, but the only game I like is the Telltales game. I wish all borderlands games had such a fun story.

Hahaha, don't you bully me, my lady, hahaha. I would love to, but I've only played it on my ex-xbox (see what I did?:), so I don't own the game anymore. I was so silly I even had all DLC.

Awww, even if you still owned your X-Box, I don't think you can co-op between different platforms, can you?

Not on Xbox. There are some Playstation games that do that, though. But I have so many games, maybe we can play something else?

Why do you think that grind=/=fun?
For you fun games must be short and have unlocked everything from the start? Or let you unlock everything by paying real money? Point at almost every mobile games.

It's funny that many years ago gamers were complaining about too shorts games and now they are complain about too long games

grindy means to me, repeating easy tasks not thought provoking or challenging, eg in Pokemon fighting wild Pokemon just to level up is grindy as hell. I myself think games being long is a good thing as long at there is good rich content there, not just press x 50 times to get to the new level, with so many games on the market & busy lives people lead these days short games done right can be good too but I must say I prefer longer games myself, you don't need to finish something in a year

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

You are right but that type of (pure) grinding in B2? Then what about every sports games? Theoretically you are repeating there same thing over and over again like Fifa. Every match is the same and you won't find there anything new or something that will push you further.
That same is with racing games. You are just grinding your way to the next track by racing. In B2 you don't have to even stop once to get your lvl higher. In B1 I just pressed forward without even a worrying about that I have too low lvl.

I hope you will understand what I want to say.

If you play a sport or racing game, you know it will be the same "task" over and over again. I'm not saying Borderlands is really grindy, but there is a difference between the genres. If I play a shooter, I expect a different kind of gameplay then when I play a racing game.

Well, there's a reason why I don't play sport games, even though I think your analogy is flawed, as sports games, while repetitive, should keep providing you with a challenge (if you pick the right difficulty), rather than just repeating the same monotonous easy to ask over and over.

For you fun games must be short and have unlocked everything from the start?

No, they should unlock new things as I play, and they can be lengthy, but they should not force me to do the same thing over and over. There are ways to introduce new content without having grind (and most games do that). You don't grind to get a new gun in Half-Life, you find it as you progress through the story. You don't grind to "unlock" new levels in SWAT 4, you beat the previous level, and a new level unlocks, and the new level offers a few challenge. You don't need to grind in order to get new skills in Fallout, it comes natural as you complete quests. Content unlock does not have to be dependent on grind.

I don't think I have played a sports game like fifa as of yet so idk how that feels but have played things like gt2 & gt4 which can be very grindy if your trying to get cash for some cars but something like Colin McRae Rally 2.0 you are always doing new things & always trying to get better at them so is challenging & not grindy at all I don't think you can call entire genres grindy, every game plays a bit different some are & some ain't I haven't played enough of b1 or b2 to say how grindy they are but what i play of 1 with some friends seems fairly grindy to me just the same easy enemy no real challenge. Not a big fan of games with levelup system myself doesn't encourage new enemy types just high stats not a big fan of stomping through hundreds of enemy you rather fight one hard enemy

What PorkyPhill said. To quote Wikipedia: "Grinding is a term used in video gaming to describe the process of engaging in repetitive tasks." Grinding is content that doesn't add much to the game but wastes time, for example defeating similar (and not really difficult) enemies again and again just to advance your character enough to be able to move forward with the story. It offers no challenge, it just wastes time.

still the $90 preorder game+season pass was worth the price

Technically, I have played it, just not that much... I bought it a while ago, and made it to Sanctuary (with 2 characters: Zer0 and the Mechromancer), but never returned to the game after that. I don't even know why O.o I guess because early-game felt repetitive to me? Really want to return to it some day though.

Had enough with the first Borderlands, i had fun but that's it.
I have no desire to play the second one, because all the stuff I saw about bl2 (it looks more of the same to be honest) just doesn't convince me to buy and play more of it.

I played the 1st a fair bit but just the lack of anything substantial to what was happening in the game overrode the reasonably fun gunplay mechanics. I don't really find tons a loot games much fun due the ridiculous amount of inventory management required, so didn't want to try the 2nd game as a result.

Not to mention B2 is not must have game that why your question is stupid. Not everyone like this game but your question suggesting that everyone should play it.
It's like asking you - Why have you not played Trackmania 2? It's very fun and one of the best arcade racing game. What is the reason?
