a) Yes, train and bus.
b) Yes, I've been through a shitload of headphones. Faulty wire connections is just one.
c) Yes.
d) No. Like what?

a) Yes, bus
b) Yes, usually the wire near the speaker
c) Yes, I take good care of my stuff, decent headphones are expensive :c
d) If the headphones are expensive enough, yes. Otherwise, I doubt it.

a) yes, bus and tram
b) yes, but I don't really remember. Last case was jack getting scratched so I had to twist it until I got sound on both ears + on one side lower sound (possibly realted)
c) not good care, but I am careful with them
d) If it turns out to be useful, possibly

If I understand you correctly, you want to make something that protects the wire near the jack connector, so it won't break as often/easily at this point? It should be "long" enough to protect the wire up to the point where it leaves the pocket, otherwise the wire will fray just after your device.
a) yes, everyhere
b) yes, near the jack or the near the buds
c) I try
d) yes.

a) bus/train
b) Yes, loose contacts somewhere between the jack and the speakers
c) Yes
d) Depends on how much that product would cost. Maybe for my 40€ headphones that mostly stay at home, but i don't think i would buy it for my 10€ earphones

a) yes, each and every :)
b) yes, and all of them broke in the same place - where the wire connects to the jack :)
c) I try to :)
d) probably yes

a) Yes, I use it everywhere, can't live without music
b) Yes, once near the jack
c) Hell yes I do
d) Yes, I would

a) Depends on the length of journey. Long train journeys yes, short bus rides no.
b) One of the earbuds fell apart entirely on one side, then the wire came loose from the socket & at the joint where the wire splits left and right, the plastic wire coating was also delaminating and going sticky... Several other pairs of earphones have had the wire fail and the sound quality / one ear piece stops working.
c) earphones (i.e. the cheaper in-ear style ones): no. Those just get shoved in my pocket / bag. Decent over-ear headphones: yes, but that's because I don't use them on public transport, just for gaming / music in my room.
d) Depends on how it works. Probably not, I'd just look for in-ear ones with a heavier duty cable and jack and tuck the cable down inside my shirt so it doesn't snag.

a) Yes on any type of commute b) Yes, they always broke near the earpiece itself or the actual earpiece ended up breaking c) not really to be honest, I can't be bothered spending big money on earphones so they are easily replaced for me d) probably not due to my point in c
Also I think I've seen a similar product which was some kind of clip or something on Dragon's Den before I think, could be a different show though not sure.

a) yes, everytime I go out. I always listen to music when I'm out and everywhere.
b) yes, it generally breaks near the jack.
c) yes, I can't stand the noise out there. I have to listen something so they are a lifesaver for me.
d) no, the quality is more important to me than the life of the earphones.

Answer to the questions:
a) Yes, I listen to music almost all day but my main public transports are trains and the bus.
b) Yes, I have broken 3 Sennheiser MX-170 earphones in the past even if I take good care of them, normally when it happens the right or left earphone stops working and some time later both.
c) Answer is in b).
d) Of course, if I buy a good pair of earphones/headphones I would love to keep using them for a long time so it would awesome if there was a product like that.

a) Yup, when I am alone, in every type.
b) I have broken 4+ earphones, every one broke at the 3.5 mm jack, althought it wasnt visible. Almost all of my headsets broke at the mic/volume changer.
c) With every broken earphone and headset a bit more.
d) I would never buy something cheap anymore. My current earphones (Sennheiser IE7) work since ~3 years without any problems with the 3.5mm jack, same with my headphones (Denon AH D-2000).
Oh an yeah, for me the cable is one of the criteria for buying headphones.

a) Yes - bus
b) Yes - the wires pull out of the end near the jack. Has happened more than once
c) Not really
d) Depends on the price. I don't spend much on headphones anyway

Hey guys, (skip near the bottom if you can't be bothered reading and are willing to help!)
I am currently taking 'Design & technology' as one of my subjects at school,
in conjunction with a product i am designing as part of this subject, i would like to conduct a very short survey to gather some basic information in order to further develop a product i am making and how viable it would be
if i were to theoretically release it into the market. It would be very helpful if you were
able to answer these four simple questions with a comment below.
For those who are intersted, I am currently attempting to create a product which limits the movement of the wire which is connecting the 3.5mm jack to the rest of the wire. Why do this? The most common problem both my friend and I share, is that for some reason no matter how much due care we take, with frequent use the earphones wires seem to constantly frey inside. So i will be attempting design a product which basically holds these two components together without damaging either component. But first I need to gather information as to whether making such a product would benefit anyone. Would anyone buy it?
a) Do you use headphones/earphones while taking public transport? If so what type? (bus, train, light rail etc)
b) Have you ever broken your headphones/earphones? If so where did it break?
(example: 'I broke it near the wire which connects to the 3.5mm jack', or 'i broke it near the wire which is connected to the speaker of my earbud' or 'I snapped the wire completely')
c) Do you take good care of your earphones/headphones?
d) Would you purchase invest in a relatively cheap product which could prolong the life of your headphones/earphones?
