1: Borderlands (the original, not BL2) is basically Diablo II with guns. The loot and skill systems are pretty much the same thing across both games. Borderlands 2 however, dumbed down the loot system a LOT and is IMO a lot less enjoyable for it. It feels a lot bigger though and may be the best "bang for your buck" in the series.
2: Torchlight 2 is a very simplistic ARPG. I enjoyed it when there was really nothing else on the market (before I had a computer capable of playing the VASTLY superior and completely free Path of Exile) but I could never go back to it.
tl;dr: Buy Borderlands 2 (or better yet, the first Borderlands) and play Path of Exile (in the free to play section on Steam).

they're both amazing games, torchlight 2 is by far the best dungeon crawler i've ever played. Diablo 3 still doesn't come close after all those patches. However, Borderlands 2 is one of the best open world games ever, with TONS of content and stuff to get. it's really a matter of what genre you prefer

Not sure what to buy of the two, but my friends and I kind of inclining towards Torchlight 2 since we love dungeon crawlers.
Any suggestions though?
EDIT - Thanks for the comments, everyone! I guess I'll be going to buy Torchlight 2 4-pack for now.
