Is this worth playing?
Smart... here's EA's portal where you can just select platform-- also includes a link to the EA Play app store other than the four already listed.... still partial to leave my dig at Nintendo up there 😁

since steam is a "ad free" platform (as far as i know), what is the catch? is there a paywall to most areas or some ridiculously skill grind scheme?

None of that, it's just filled with microtransactions for cosmetics. There isn't much character customization unless you pay for it. Even your board customization is extremely limited unless you pay.
But the entire map is open to skate regardless if you pay $0 or $1,000....so at least there's that.

It's not a mobile game, if that's what you're thinking. The only game that I know of that even has advertising, which is just merely made up of sponsorships (and on Steam, mind you), is Slapshot Rebound. Otherwise, I would never have heard such a thing.
AFAIK, you're free to grind anywhere. Some areas have challenges. So most obvious is to do those challenges and get points off of it. I'm sure there's more to do, but the bulk of it last I saw wasn't a paywalled thing. Microtransactions, maybe, but nothing P2W. Most you'd get out of that is just cosmetics. It's just for fun.

I've played it a few times during beta since at least last year. Only time would tell if there was a release. Evidently, because of that, it's already in my EA library.
I wouldn't have been surprised if it was a paid game, as it's something with microtransaction protential. I see they only have a couple DLCs for cosmetics and stuff for now. But at its core, it really just does feel like a F2P game anyway. Kind of like if Tony Hawk was a Jet Set Radio game.

and is (... permanently?...) free-to-play
AFAIK, Skate was always promoted as releasing as a free-to-play/microtransaction game. Similarly, the Early Access page for Steam has, as far as I'm aware, always listed it as "Free in Early Access 'and beyond'."
Seeing as there's no indication of it being a time-limited/copy-limited/etc offer, the topic's more suitable for the General forum than the Deals forum (as it isn't "a Deal" by any typical metric).
Worth a try?
Probably not. The devs were apparently very unresponsive during EA and the game apparently didn't release in a good state (lacking gameplay breadth, technical polish, and massively limited [relative to what was expected] multiplayer [gameplay, communication] elements).
If you strip away all the negative "this isn't the game we wanted" and positive "this game is great for nonsensical reasons that don't relate to anything coherent and I swear I wasn't paid to write this review" comments on Steam, then you're left with a "this game has potential to develop into something fun, but isn't super great now- being only good for the skating itself, but not for anything you can do with the skating or for longevity aspects- and didn't meaningfully improve on perceived major flaws during EA despite constant feedback, meaning it launched in a very rushed state".
(Fair bit of reviews expressing disdain for the art style the game uses, as well, though I'm not seeing why there's any issue there myself.)
In short, unless you see signs of something that tempts you- like limited duration cosmetic unlocks or similar (the game does apparently have seasonal challenge passes, so may want to look into those to see what they offer)- probably not worth even considering the game until it's had a fair few major updates.

Anyone else having problem with PlayStation?

Just claimed it now, probably you're not claiming in your own PS region.
Just change the region link to your own region instead of your PS account.

I was going to say along what Megumin did... try this spot on EA's page, it says "Select platform" and I'm sure it reads your region based on your IP

Yep, it's based on IP, but probably some people has accounts from other regions not on their current IP, hence I made that list for people who has account regions not matching their current IP.
But still official way is the way!

I saw something in the terms to play about 2K and using your browsing data etc.
Is lthis like the clause in Borderlands that lets them spy on you or something? I declined. I only play borderlands on console now for this exact reason.

skate. Entered or came out of EA today and is (... permanently?...) free-to-play... I have no idea what's going on with this, I just saw it. The OG came out while I was not gaming and honestly haven't played much of any skating games ever. Worth a try?
