Pay....for mods?
Please don't give them the idea that people would actually do this.

They got burned the first time around, let's hope they learned their lesson for all time.

EDIT: I read the article & the features the mod has. We already have mods that do what they're trying to convince people to pay for.

You didn't know about Creation Club before this?

I remember Bethesda's first foray into paid mods and the huge amount of backlash that came with it.
That should be more than enough.

For?

They made it since then, but since it is not on Valve's platform but their own, it is now the best thing that ever happened to gaming as far as the plebs is concerned. Many of the ones foaming about it on the Steam forums are among the most vehement defenders of the current new system, which still does the exact same, only now Bethesda takes an even larger cut.

The problem is not only paid mods, but they shove locked paid mod content onto your system via "mandatory update", clogging up your system and messing up existing mods.

Fuck Bethesda.

+1

Bethesda, who I used to LOVE, is becoming worse than EA was - and even they got a little better. Bethesda is just going downhill - and really fast

Another +1
Although I suspect it should really be Fuck ZeniMax?

My excitement for the next Elder Scrolls is draining away bit by bit with every new Bethesda decision 😢

But why ? Yes - with creation club and all these overpriced mods they are shooting themselfs in the foot.
But why would that drain your excitiment for next game in the franchise ? Stupid decisions in marketing doesnt affect how physics work in the game, how story is written and how the game is made.

And, isnt all this nonsense thanks to the publisher not developer ? So i dont see how this could affect the next game.

I am fairly sure there is already a mod for this (can't remember the specific name right now, though).

There are several on this theme. I believe Frostfall is one of the best known

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Indeed! Have to try it sometime soon. Searching for Frostfall reveals that there's even an entire website dedicated to Skyrim survival mods.

The sum of Campfire, Frostfall and Last Seed is a whole new experience. Adds hunger, thirst, hypothermia and disease, among other features.

Well.. Survival Mode for Fallout 4 was and IS great.. but it was free

I wouldn't pay for it. Not because I think it's inherently wrong to pay for mods but because there's been several free mods that do the same already. I might pay for something Skyrim related if it was something actually original.

I mean, I barely play Skyrim any more so it would have to be something really interesting and new to make me install it again.

This looks like a combination of several mods I've looked at or used before in Skyrim, the most notable being Frostfall.

yeah a combination of Frostfall, Campfire, Wet and Cold, Hunterborn, and others

After paid mods, I'm waiting for "the earliest access" (Devolver E3 Conference).

I will not support any paid mod. So, no money from me.

I remember trying out some "realistic needs" mod on the original Skyrim (not the Special Edition) back then, while I liked the idea that food cold etc. would have some more impact, I soon found the mod to be rather annoying, because rate at which hunger etc. was building up, was much too quick. Maybe this mode is more balanced, I don't know, but I definitely wouldn't pay for it.

No problem if you are paying the modder, but the money goes to Bethesda.

[....] as we're also updating & removing the creation kit

Seems like unnecessary work to update it before removing it, but maybe that's just me.

they're updating it so that it won't be backward compatible - removing it won't allow new mods to be made, but old ones will still work. Update it to be incompatible and older mods will no longer work

Why would you update something you're removing?

Could not select a negative amount of money, SAD :( I can not stress enough how much I dislike these "survival" modes, at best they're boring as hell. I know some people enjoy playing like that, but for me it's a complete bore and unnecessary "challenge".

I agree. I prefer playing Skyrim as an adventure game and I find the extra management more tedious than challenging.

This is not "all new" in the slightest. It is a combination of 4 mods already existing at the Nexus.

>>>Survival mode will cost 800 Creation Club points(equivalent to 15 USD)<<<

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OX219ZscZxY

From a moderator on the Reddit thread:

This is getting a bunch of reports as misleading, and yes while it's true the mode itself is 800 credits, you cannot get 800 credits without spending $15 dollars for 1500 credits since 800 sits conveniently in between the 2 currency purchasing options you have available to you (750 credits for $7.99 or 1500 Credits for $14.99)
Because of this, we don't feel this is misleading in the slightest. I'd ask people to stop reporting it but that won't happen. I'm just posting here to explain why we're not labeling this as misleading.

The more I hear about this crap, the more Skyrim seems to be superior than Special Edition even with the older engine and graphics.

Ngl, I'm really grossed out by their insistence that they should monetize the concepts already proven popular by freely made mods out of the community. They're not bringing anything new to the table, they're essentially ripping off unpaid fanlabor and slapping a price tag on it. If they didn't want mods to be available/widely used then they shouldn't have provided the creation kit in the first place.

I have played Skyrim to the end and got Special Edition free but haven't really tried it yet.

Honestly, which one is the better between them? Special Edition has the better engine but seems like the original seems to be the better one for mods. Not sure which is better for graphics overall after mods.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

This depends on your viewpoint. I don't think it matters much when it comes to graphics but the new engine has better resource handling and fewer limitations and once they manage to get SKSE64 ready it should be equally moddable. The only real downside from my perspective once SKSE is ready would be the Creation Club messing with your load order and stuff like that. I suppose someone will figure out a relatively easy solution for that eventually though.

i wouldn't pay a cent because i don't like what they did with fallout 4's survival mode, and i assume it will be the same for skyrim.
new vegas was way better and less punishing, extreme difficulty modes with annoying stuff aren't fun for me.

That's really good idea!

Serving Insanity level behind additional 10$ paywall for 6 y/o game, and (maybe) add achievements for beating game with it (in Bethesda new game)

I hope whole creation club will end like this:

Everyone's complaining about paid mods, but what about Black Mesa? H1Z1? PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds? How many games started as a Mod of a different game?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

That's a different story. Those offer enough content to be sold as a independent game. What we are hating on here is the fact they are trying to make you buy a crab armor when that should be free,

Frostfall+Campfire+iNeed+Hunterborn

Might not be as seamless integration as survival mode, but does all the same things and more.
