Hey there.

My current headset just died a couple of hours ago. Just after getting my new PC. (Good timing, right) That were long, good 6 or maybe even 7 years with Plantronics GameCom 788. I haven't heard the better 7.1 Dolby sound quality yet tbh.
So guys, I'd like to hear your recommendations. Looking for a new 7.1 Dolby headset.

  1. Not Razer
  2. Not Wireless

Some leftover: o6Jz8 - reverse code. Level 5.

I really like my HyperX Cloud Revolver S Pro Gaming Headset. In addition to the good sound quality, it is very comfortable for long-term use and has a very long cord giving it some of the advantages of a wireless headset without actually being wireless.

Good luck! It is always annoying to replace a computer accessory that you really liked. (And adorable cat if it is yours!)

I came here to say this pretty much lol. But I have Hyperx Cloud 2. Comfortable longterm use, good sound, good mic, I'm probably not going to switch from HyperX when my headset needs to be replaced.

I don't have much experience with headsets, but the first I got is the Minos H210 Gaming Headset, and I can't complain about it [mostly because I got it for free]

I got the "CORSAIR HS60 PRO SURROUND Wired Stereo Gaming Headset" and enjoy it.

It has a removable microphone, sound quality seems decent, and it secure enough around the ear that it suppresses hearing much outside noise. It supports a regular headset jack or USB, with 7.1 support only provided through USB.

I don't have a good suggestion I just wanna say RIP your headset. I am still sad that it got discontinued a few years ago. I went through 2 of them with one of them setting itself on fire (I wish I was kidding) and I would still have loved to buy another one if I could :(

I researched the heck out of headsets recently too and the HyperX series seemed to be a good pick. Personally I don't use the mic often so I ended up getting a nice audiophile headphone along with a dac+amp and use the inline mic part of another iem clipped on when needed. The mic quality was surprisingly good enough so I didn't bother getting a blue yeti, maybe in the future.

Depends on your budget really.

Get the Sennheiser PC37X from Drop (previously known as Massdrop) or Game One from Amazon (slightly more expensive).

If you have the cash then get the Audeze Mobius or HyperX Orbit if you don't care about bluetooth as an option.

Btw, 7.1 on headset is in most cases gimmicky. Very few headset does it well, Mobius is one of them. If you want better 7.1 experience look at amp/dac units, like the Sennheiser GSX1000 or Creative G6 or X3.

The Audeze Mobius was recommended a lot too from lots of sites and reviews, I really liked it. The price is almost an investment though.

Buy a 5.1 Logitech sound system. Can't go wrong there.

You can. A good 5.1 system would cost much, much more than something from Logitech.

I highly recommend headphones + standalone mic. It allows for the highest quality in everything, and it also means if one part breaks you don't have to replace the whole thing. Only drawback is it can be a bit more expensive.

Recommend open-back (better sound stage) headphones like Sennheiser plus a vocal mic like a Shure (something designed for voice that doesn't pick up as much background noise).

If you absolutely have to get a headset, I recommend Sennheiser Game One (open back).

Without a info about the budget i say:
Sennheiser GSP 350, around 100€

And in general prefer MUSIC companies [as example Teufel, Sennheiser and such ones] Headsets and NOT gamer headsets.
That make a really big difference by the quality.

I buy only Sennheiser headsets since over 10 years. Since i bought the first one (PC151) i never changed back to a other company....

i only had bad experiencers with logitech, razer or speedlink headsets. also beyerdynamic mmx300 is good on the sound side but uncomfortable for longer sessions. your pretty much on the safe side with sennheisers. but be aware that sennheisers are usually "more true to the original sound" so you might actually miss all the "boom" at first that some other manucfacturers offer.. oh and the highends might not let you enjoy all modern music because you can hear more of the dynamic compression wich can be really annoying for some....

Forget about 5.1/7.1 because of the physics it's all emulated in the end. To squeeze all these little drivers into the HP they needed to make them really small and as the result their quality isn't really as good.
Depending on your budget you could look into some cheap Superlux headphones (HD681, HD668b, HMC631). Their quality is proven and they are really cheap and on equal footing as Hyper-X Cloud 2 when it comes to audio quality. Best quality per buck you can get.

For higher quality and higher price:
If you want some nice open headphones with linear response (which means they play music as it is, without adding any more bass or highs to the tracks - they are left as the original artists meant them to be) you may want to look at AKG K7xx (mass drop edition), AKG K712. There are also really well received Sennheiser HD650 and HD600 - a little bit darker with excellent audio stage.

If you want some nice semi-open headphones - V-shaped (more bass and highs which sounds more "fun" but may not work with every music genre) Beyerdynamics DT990 or with more linear response - DT880 are for you.

From closed headphoned - AKG K550/K553 - really flat, linear response, with huge stage and really good audio positioning but they may be hard to obtain as their production has been discontinued. It's unusual for closed headphones to have this big stage and such ideal positioning in gaming. Beyerdynamics DT770 - really flat, linear response with great imaging but with only slightly worse audio stage and positioning (reminder - flat does not mean "bad", it means that the sound isn't altered and is the most faithful to the original production).

If you want to go for "overkill" in terms of money go for Audeze LCD2, HiFiMan HE-560 or HifiMan Sundara (the cheapest and newest one of all) - these are planar headphones that require amplifier to play music. Planar headphones are said to play more realistic sounds at the cost of needing more power to drive them. Their sound signature is really unique and cannot be mistaken for anything else.

With the higher end headphones you should sooner or later buy an amplifier and a DAC because the integrated sound card won't be able to make them shine. You may think that you don't need it but when you happen to try it you'll know that you were mistaken. There are really high quality DACs (Topping or Khadas for example), Amps (JDS Atom) and even DAC+Amp combos (Topping) for very little money. Consider them as an investment into next 15 or 20 years of possibly highest audio quality.

My SteelSeries Arctis 7 are great, I'd always recommend them. If you insist on wired, you can rely on the Arctis 5 which isn't bad either by all means.

Hyper X Cloud Alpha ! Can't go wrong...even Linus and jayztwocents agree ;) not that their opinion matters more. I just absolutely love this headset (been gaming with it for years)

EDIT: This is bang for your buck of course, premium quality at lower pricetag. (Also.. it has 7.1)
If you're looking for the very cream of the crop (with a big pricetag) then mabye just scroll past this comment

Thanks guys, appreciate it.

The budget is around €100-€150. So for now I am thinking about HyperX Cloud (the only one option to get is Amazon, but I don't really like that marketplace) Sennheiser and Arctis. Will take a look.

Definitely look for a headset with removable cable. I had a headset from Creative which died only because cable broke. And since it was the flat time cable I didn't manage to fix it.
So after that I've got audio-technica ATH-M40x. Not a gaming headset, but really great sound all around. Can highly recommend them or ATH-M50x. Should be within your budget.
