Dunno. I heard that the original creators of Command and Conquer worked on it so it should be good.

There isn't really a correct build. That said, if you don't use common sense you can screw it up real easy.
For example, Weaver is debated on whether or not he should focus on Linken's Sphere, or Radiance. Both are great for him, but it's not like there's a right answer. Unless you get something really dumb like a mana regen item on someone whose mana regen will get you by as it is anyway, you SHOULD be okay.
That said, hard carries will need to be much more diligent with their builds. I usually just look up builds, but don't always follow them 100%. (I've yet to play against actual players, but I'm supah pro against bots 4 real bro.)

I'd even dare to say ROI could very much be the most forgiving game in that matter, then its LoL, then HoN, then finally the Dota games.
While the gameplay is loose, it doesnt mean its easy to get into, if you're used to getting taken by the hand like some other games of that genre (i had that with LoL and RoI in my case), then get ready to get ganked at lvl 1 by 2 or 3 guys, get ready to get nuked at 5 minutes into the game, and most important: dying makes you loose gold, so dont :D

Which is always the same no matter what Toon you choose :D.

i noticed about dota 2 something interesting if u are like newcomer and newer played dota system will detect it somehow and u will play with low skill players :) if y get there hero pick and build not mater :) i'm average player and here build does much how u build specific hero against specific heroes and player skills :)

I don't memorize builds so I would say it doesn't matter that much unless you are just buying random items that make no sense, stick with recommended!
Anyways add me if anyone wants to play, I just got back into it again after taking a few months off and I'm still a beast.

I didnt played dota2 but i played the original one quite a lot, i wouldnt say its unforgiving, at the end the skill its all that matters and part of that skill its knowing what items to buy, theres a great deal of strategy in what to build and in what order(based on you and enemys team), its not like LoL or those washed up games where thers 1 or 2 "optimal" builds and you have to go for that.
My best advice for a newcomer to dota its trying to learn by experience and logic, and not following a build blindly, if you see the other team its full of nukes and kind of focus on you, dont do the +8000 atk build, you wont live long enought to land a single blow, or dont buy armor increasing items if the other team its full of mages, etc, once you know how each item works there are lots of ways to do it. 90% of the time someone will complain about your build, be a good one or a bad one, that demostratres there are a lot of posiblities. The second and most important advice: Stay alive, i consider it more important that a tower or an enemy hero, at least while you are new, make that your first priority.
BLOCK OF TEXT FTW

If you are a ganker pretending to carry, i will whoop you.
If you are a support not supporting, i will whoop you.
If you are a prophet getting midas agha, i will whoop you.
If you are a carry not farming, i will whoop you.
If you are a auto-attacker, i will whoop you.
If you are a bad player, i will whoop you.
In other words, i will whoop you.

Im sorry but i did not close my last topic on this subject and the posts there did not deem it to be closed or solved.
I dont need item building guides for dota 2. I just want to know if its unforgiving if you use the wrong build or does it come down to skill in the end.
Rise of Immortals seems to be straight edged in that if you pick the build that isnt the "best" you will get whooped in game.
Is this the same for Dota 2 or is the gameplay more loose?
also dont close my topic again.
