Steam already lets you setup shortcuts to launch games from other launchers, and if you read between the lines, that's essentially all they have actually promised. I think GOG's going to do a much better job - using APIs to populate a list of games you own, setting up prettier launch pages, and set up the launch link automatically if the game's already installed, but it's essentially just a smoother, smarter version of what you can already do manually in Steam.

Now, if they can do a universal, automatic GOG Connect, where I get a GOG copy of any game available on the platform because I have it in a linked account in Steam, Uplay, Origin, Twitch, etc., then they really have my attention, as I'll really have all my games (well, the ones available in GOG) in one storefront and launcher. If I could pick up GOG DLC for games I originally got on Steam or Twitch, I might still be more likely to pick up a game on the other platform because I get it included with a subscription, but it would open up the GOG storefront for me...right now, I get games on Steam because I almost always get them cheaper than on GOG, and that locks me into getting my DLC on Steam, unless I get a copy through GOG Connect. I can't say I'd switch 100% - too many games not on GOG, too many ways to get games cheaper on Steam - but it would certainly open the door to the GOG storefront for me for a lot of games.

In an interview they talked about merging chats too. Like you could send a message from GOG to someone playing on Xbox and also see what your friends are playing on any platform. At least it seems interesting if they manage to execute it.

10 Reasons I prefer Steam:

  1. I can win/give away the game on Steamgifts.
  2. I can buy it with Steam Wallet credit. I can get $50 Steam Wallet cards for $40 through retailer Fry's Electronics for 20% on top of any sale price. In addition, I get small amounts of wallet funds back from cards dropping during sales (sometimes over Steam a dollar a sale).
  3. Steam trading cards. Not all games have them, but the initial drop and booster packs are free money. Over hundreds of games, it adds up. They also gives a way to dress-up your Steam profile with backgrounds, badges and emoticons.
4.Steam Family Sharing. Not all games support it, but this grants explicit permission to share a game. GOG games are DRM-free, but according to GOG support center, you are not supposed to share them.
  4. Faster, coordinated downloads. Steam download servers are often faster than third-party (er, first-party) servers, and having the game in steam means I have an orderly queue that I can prioritize.
6.Steam Friends list. My friends on Steam can see I'm in a game already, so they can join or know not to bother me.
  5. Steam Workshop. Not all games make use of it, but it gives me convenient access to a lot of free content and keeps it up to date.
  6. Steam wishlist It automatically syncs with IsThereAnyDeal to give me notifications when a game's on sale and is visible to friends on Steam, Steamgifts, and elsewhere.
  7. Better deals. I can almost always get better deals on a game I got through Steam than through GOG, largely due to the wider array of resellers and bundle sites. This is especially true of bundles and DLC. If I get a game on GOG, I have exactly one place I can buy DLC for it and one place where it might go on sale (GOG itself). If I get a game through Steam, I can watch for sales on Steam❤︎, Amazon❤︎, GMG❤︎, Humble❤︎, Fanatical, Nuuvem, GamesPlanet, GameStop, IndieGala, WinGameStore, and Voidu. The stores with hearts are ones where I have store credit.
  8. Not 'out of sight, out of mind.' GOG is less annoying about this, but my typical Uplay gaming session goes:
    • Remember I have a game under Uplay.
    • Launch Uplay. Uplay says its out of date.
    • Download Uplay, launch the update, let it update.
    • Launch Uplay. Say is requires login.
    • Go to their web site to request a reset since I don't have it committed to memory.
    • Get the reset email, go back to their web site and enter a new password.
    • No, too secure a password, must choose one that's shorter and less secure. Use a random password generator to reset the password, guaranteeing no human could remember it let alone guess it.
    • Re-enter the login on the main gaming system (meaning it's now out of date on my notebook - I know, FWP).
    • Go to launch the game, find the game is out of date.
    • Watch the game download, realize it's going to be 5+ minutes.
    • Play something on Steam while the game downloads.

I was in this exact situation when I pre-ordered The Witcher 3 as soon as it was available.I played the entire game in 640*480 with single digit framerates with a bunch of super low res texture mods on my old ass laptop and still enjoyed every second of it. I then built my first desktop and went back to enjoy it in all it's glory.

Looking forward to what they potentially do with the setting. Please please pleeease be a more tactile story-centric thing, please don't devolve into "shooter+" syndrome, hnnng.

Cinematic was pretty okay, but when the random celebrity face showed up it debuffed its own immersion. Not liking this trend towards copy-paste celebrities.

Keanu Reeves isn't just in it btw, I'm reading that he's gonna be quite the central character. He's playing Johnny Silverhand, a main character of the 2020 game and one of the most popular/titular characters of the entire franchise. It's awesome how they kept this such a secret till now.

Supposedly Kojima wanted Reeves for Death Stranding, but he wasnt available. So there's speculation that this is why.
Not sure if anything else will top this news at E3, given how the internet loves CDPR, DRM free, and Keanu Reeves.

cant tell if the gaming community is in a free fall or a downward spiral.
only newbs fall for hype.
what type of moron buys a game without seeing gameplay footage...?

GOG or Steam that is the question, I like GOG 100% of money goes to cd project red.

This is CDPR. No hype is enough for this game. Whole world needs to pre-purchase it. This is not sarcasm.

There's refunds for a while now. So while preordering a game that comes out next year might seem unnecessary, it certainly has no risk whatsoever anymore. No need to call anyone who does it a moron...

Also, there's plenty of gameplay footage of this game. Maybe you should have googled that before making the post.
