Good day to you all. This week I booked the week off from work to mainly play some games and relax after the Christmas period (I had little/no time off as I work in a hospital).

I decided to play through The Walking Dead (telltale, not survival instinct) as I'm a big 'ol fan of the books/comics (not so keen on the tv series). And I'll be honest, I cried like a girl at the end. A big girl with a beard no less. For a good couple of minutes as well. And not a single manly tear rolling down a stoic face. No, blubbering snotty almost inconsolable tears.

It's been a long time since I've cried like this (I think roughly just under a year) and certainly not over a game. Never over a game in fact. I've had a lot of really engaging experiences with games, but none where I felt this level of emotion.

So today in the wake of the compleition of The Walking Dead I start playing Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons. Which was all lovely and nice until the bloody end where I start crying like a beardy girl yet again. What are the chances? I play games weekly yet on two consecutive days I have incredibly deep and emotional experiences with two different games.

Frankly it's why I play games, while I love the escapism it offers, it at times can act like a mirror and remind us of things in our lives or even act as a tool or metaphor for life itself. I thoroughly enjoyed these games (and have left it as spoiler free as I can (obviously you now know they're both sad at the end)) and recommend you have a play through them when you get the opportunity (and I hope you find it as rewarding as I did).

So, have you played these games?, what were your experiences/how did you find them? Have you had any similar experiences with other games? And lastly what should I play next? (I definitely could do with a change of pace/mood/tone. I'll probably just play crazy taxi...)

TLDR: I cried at a game and enjoyed the experience.

I finished The Walking Dead season 1 game not too long ago :D, I didn't cry at the end though it was a great ending but its hard to get me emotional in games xD What you should play next? Dark souls it will leave you crying for a whole other reason :D

Loved to the moon, but not exactly the buckets of tears I thought it would bring... just a slight whimper.

I actually have that on my list to play, but like I said, I could do with a bit of a change, to y'know, lighten the mood a bit.

To the moon turns me to alcohol, so far the only game having this effect, it's pretty much brilliant!

I went ahead and played (and finished) Gone Home as well. That didn't make me cry, yet I was compelled by it's narrative and atmosphere. I can see it being quite a polarising and perhaps divisive game though. I found it resonated quite deeply with me, being that I grew up and went through secondary school around the time that the game is set and felt like an outsider as well (although not to give away any spoilers, not in the exact same way as in the game). I'd also recommend this game to people who want a really different gaming experience (there's no combat, or even any other character interaction) and are fairly open-minded to the prospect of a narrative-based experience rather than a traditional "gaming" experience..

BIT.TRIP presents... Runner2: Future Legend of Rhythm Alien is a pretty upbeat game I think. It doesn't have much of a story and is probably a game you can/should play in between, but I have no idea what drug the developers were on exactly. So there is that.

EDIT: ... I was (way) more emotional when the ending of The Walking Dead S1 rolled around, but not so much when I played Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons. I liked both games for what they are, but I probably had a hard time connecting with the brothers for some reason. I also kind of expected the end to be the way it was. The moment that touched me the most was probably when the controls changed in the end, to say it in a mostly spoiler-free way.

I was watching Cry play The Crooked Man. His last 2 videos had me crying. His voice and the meaning of the game made me bawl. Same as Season 1 & 2 of TellTales' Walking dead. I love games that get me attached emotionally, I just hate that it makes me cry (I'm just an emotional type of person).
