I read that. It's completely idiotic. Privacy of mail has been there for centuries and email is no different. I don't voluntarily turn my mail over go Google, they are a carrier, just like the real world post office.
Obviously it's no surprise that mail is scanned (anti-spam filters need to do that, anyway) but this stance is as solid as a paper castle.
I only use Gmail for junk, anyway.

Not exactly news. Read the terms for any email service. Hell, you really don't have 100% assurance of privacy anywhere when you think about it. It's kind of creepy.

This is completely know for a long time ago, just look at the ads specifies for you.
The problem is that service of Gmail is really good and easy to use on Android, join other mails for university for example, tags... etc.. and much people (including me), we use it even knowing this.

I do not care, i know that google use automated bots to scan mails for advertising.
People should know that his life is controlled online. Facebook, cookies, tabs and sesions that sharing info, Internet service providers that control your connections and much more.... All this is not new. Everything you do gets recorded somewhere
The unike form to save your mail secure is buy a domain and a server and make your own Mail server.

Oh no! They are doing... nothing new? And why would I care about automated scans for ads? At least I get ads for what I write about, and not about lipsticks or vacations to Madrid.
But I guess people need something so they can blame the big evil corporation.

"Just as a sender of a letter to a business colleague cannot be surprised that the recipient's assistant opens the letter, people who use Web-based email today cannot be surprised if their emails are processed by the recipient's [email provider] in the course of delivery,” the motion reads in part. “Indeed, 'a person has no legitimate expectation of privacy in information he voluntarily turns over to third parties.’"
