Hello,

Used ChagtGpt to create this,
Nurikabe generator

Rules:

  • The number of squares in each island equals the value of the clue.
  • All islands are isolated from each other horizontally and vertically.
  • There are no sea areas of 2x2 or larger.
  • When completed, sea form a continuous path.

Some video of rules on youtube

If I have you blacklisted, but you play your wins/won something from me and you played that game, if you care enough about getting unblacklisted, you can comment. (You can also reply to my comment on a game I won, or you can add me on steam)

Thanks for the puzzle, I used to do a few of these a few years ago and didn't recall of it anymore, I enjoy these puzzles, never knew the name of them:)

Man, I have complicated feelings about the worrying trend that a growing number of SG's community-made puzzle tools are AI generated 🫤

maybe you need to right click to mark the island(?

Ah yes, thanks. Seems like an unnecessary extra step though.

I had trouble with that too. It's like EaglePB2 said, you have to mark the islands (right click in every box).

Perhaps, I am misunderstanding the logic here, but I would make all squares that are not marked as part of an island as AUTOMATICALLY colored black instead of requiring the player to have to then click to turn it black. In other words, I would have only two states for cells - Island or Black and eliminate the third state of "Unspecified".

Update

  • There is no need to "right click cells" to make the island. This feature is now only as a helper while solving.

Thanks for the fun puzzle! Speaking of which, 'Nurikabe' is actually a Japanese word—it means a plastered wall in architecture, and it's also a famous folklore monster (Yokai)! Does 'Nurikabe' mean anything in your language/country?

In Japan, a architectural nurikabe is a wall built by hand using a trowel to layer clay, plaster, or mortar over a base frame.

As a Yokai, Nurikabe is a wall monster that blocks people on night roads. No matter how far you try to walk around it, it stretches indefinitely so you can't pass (pretty much like my life, lol).

I didn't know what it meant as a word itself, though I did know it was a monster in folklore. I learnt it actually when I was looking for "Rules" to copy for the post, instead of phrasing it myself.
The page about yokai monster poped up as a first search result.

Japanese folklore is so cool! Thanks for sharing. I love how the creatures are not just scary, but some have very practical effects also, like being a lesson for people to clean their houses lol. I was looking at some of them here https://japan-avenue.com/blogs/japan/yokai

Wow nice, I didn't know this game before. It's well made!
One minor thing that could be improved: the game indicated every mistake but it didn't indicated the mistake of not forming one continuous wall.

"one continuous wall" I don't really know what you mean by that.

I think he means that the black cells should all be connected.
It says "No rule violations detected so far".

Sorry, I mean "all walls form a continuous path". It was my first time playing Nurikabe. Although the indications of errors helped me to understand the game, I once reached a situation where the grid was filled, yet I was stuck because I didn't understood why the game didn't approve my solution. No errors were mentioned and the only message was: "No rule violations detected so far."
But there was obviously a mistake ;)

It's exactly as explained in the message just above mine, but it's probably clearer with an example.
I restarted the game and provided the wrong solution: it doesn't display my mistake in red or with a message.

Bump for solved!

Some thoughts:

  • Maybe it would be better to describe the walls as water/ocean, since you're describing the other tiles as islands?
  • My strategy was to place the "walls" where I'm sure they must go, and then play around with the islands. Would it be possible to automatically assume blank tiles are walls when all the islands have been marked?
I'm guessing not because marking islands is supposed to be optional and you're supposed to play around with the walls instead?
  • Alternatively, if I could somehow differentiate between "absolutely sure" walls and "just testing things out walls", that would also work. But I don't see a good way of implementing this...

I don't know if I understand you correctly about "Automatically assume blank tiles are walls", is it what I am showing in the image?

You can disregard that. I just tried another puzzle and it autosolved it just as I would have hoped.
In the image below, basically have it be solved as soon as the last part of the 3 part island is marked, without having to mark all the other tiles as walls. I assume I must have still had a mistake in there before. :)

Same for point 3: I think the checkpoint system would fill the role fine of having a "known good" partial solution I can revert to. ^^

Level 2, ends Sep 26

note: this has some region locks (blame fanatical/steam): AL BH BY CU IM KE KP MC MD PY RU SY are excluded. Everything else listed on Fanatical for USA region should be allowed but apologies if I filled something out wrong.

edit: also something for my whitelist. This is also from Fanatical so unfortunately same RR as above

Strange. According to the information on SteamDB, this game doesn't have any region-locked keys. Could it be that Fanatical lists these restrictions for all the games it sells?

As far as I can see, Fanatical does not list them as region locked, it just simply doesn't list them. In this case, I think it should work in those countries too.

Edit: I see WaxWorm already told zpangwin about it.

Could be that I just misunderstood and was overly paranoid when setting things up too.

Waxworm asked me about this too. I walked thru how I (mis?) interpreted those RR here

https://www.steamgifts.com/go/comment/TANTlY9

TBH, I find RR annoying to do and really would have preferred to just make it all inclusive region wise but was afraid of having to deal with bad regions + people who might not let me delete ga if there is a problem.

I'm assuming I can't change existing GA's and probably the point here is I need to fix my understanding of what is actually blocked so I don't make any more like this?
