Just buy the most expensive one you can find, as long as it's not Alienware

y not laptop giveaway + advice?

seems like you are looking for a laptop to play on. In that case I recommend no laptop. Do Not buy a laptop for Gaming even when it says it it a "gamer laptop". What they mean by that is facebook-like games. Surely that's not what you had in mind when you wanted to play games.

If your looking for portability, buy an ultrabook. I can take my asus zenbook through all my classes without charging.

it has a nice processor, however if possible I would stick windows 7 in it if you can. It comes with 8gb of ram and is upgradable to 16, this is always good, never buy a laptop where the ram is maxed out, it should last you 3-5 years if you get a good processor. Keep in mind the best gaming machines are still desktops as you can swap out and upgrade.
The gpu is pretty good for a mobile computer, this will be important depending how hardcore you play, it may require turning down the graphics for top of the line games in a few years.
The processor speed if very nice and its also a nice light body on it, this is great if you are a student and will travel, that 3 pounds can make a difference (mines 8lbs and I can feel it some days).
Im not sure what the conversion is on the price however, if this computer is in the $900-1100 Canadian mark then its a decent price (expect for the windows - however you can reinstall 7 on it and use the key from your old laptop or just deal with it :/ )
It doesnt give a battery life, I would look into that and maybe get a back up as they will be harder to buy the older the machine gets.
Overall it looks good, but I would print out the specs and shop around to make sure you get the best deal, also find out all the warranty information, and the reformat hot buttons. Just remember, the better the processor the longer the life and the better the gpu the better the gaming. ( I go with processor over gpu every time, but I dont play hardcore or competitive and my 3 year old laptop with a shitty m105 runs skyrim, borderlands 2 and NS2 with some lowered settings but I need it to render and edit more then I need it to game)

For a gaming laptop I waited until Dell was selling their L702X line (Dell XPS Laptop line) on the outlet store and there was a 25% off coupon. Retail on my laptop was $1700 and I got it for $850, minus the 3D glasses (which I got online for about $40 or $50 on eBay.)

If you want to pay retail prices go Sager/Clevo. Configure the laptop of your dreams and fiddle with the configuration options a bit. I like the Sager laptops a lot and they provide a wide range of configuration options that should meet your needs.

Don't buy MSI, it's not a good quality HW, cheap plastic.
Besides specs you need to focus on how it's build as well.
I would only buy Dell with NBD warranty, Latitude line is very well build, check E6430 or E7440 if you don't need a optical drive.

I never had a gaming laptop, but I thought that I would prefer an MSI rather than Asus or Alienware, since MSI as I understand has a good quality (or maybe their laptops aren't, if you say) and also, they, for most of their gaming laptops (not the cheapest) included a 7200 rpm HDD and not 5400 rpm like Asus does even on most high priced gaming laptops, Alienware as ppl say is overpriced, but seeing Asus gaming PCs for about 1300€ including a GTX 650 1Gb, I can't tell Alienware sells overpriced stuff.

why would anybody want a laptop? your choice is overpriced but if you have the money... Anyway its none of my business, my only advice is to DOUBLE CHECK if the laptop has an nvidia card with optimus technology and STAY AWAY FROM IT.

Guy... buy lenovo y580. For lower price you have i5 or i7 with 16gb of ram, gtx660m. Or you can buy lenovo y500 with gtx750m sli (2x gpu) and i7 ;)
