Yeee, song from fight with Vergil in DMC 5 is one of my favourite. I will go with whole GTA Vice City soundtrack, especially Flash FM. San Andreas was good too. You can't also forget about The Witcher 3 soundtrack. I like too the title song of Total Overdose 2, it's absolute banger in my opinion. In memory as well the ending song of Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty, I little cried when I heard the song for the first time.

Some true blasts from the past here. The radio in GTA was one of the best thing about the games. As for the Witcher 3, apparently there was a whole RPG outside the taverns?? I hadn't thought of Total Overdose in decades but the mind doesn't forget the music. I haven't yet listened to the CP2077 ost (because I wanted to experience this one in game) but who can forget this absolute banger from the trailer.

Apotheosis- Journey's Final Level
(Heck even the dictionary meaning of this word is amazing.)
This level, this music...i think it will stay with me until i lose my senses. Best game I've ever played.
Most of this game I played in a frustrated, irritated yet curious mindset.
But when this level came up.....Everyyythingg....all of it, began to make sense.
What the point of this Journey was.... was the suffering worth it? The game felt incredibly meaningful to me, because I could deeply relate with it w.r.t. my personal Journey. I was at a confused yet low point back then.
I left this game and this music, with happy yet hurt tears. And in awe....thinking....Wow....if this is gaming, i dont think I can ever part with it. A piece of art has made me feel something so real and profound. I must look for this in other forms of art as well or maybe just keep an open mind to life itself.

Ah Journey... one of many Playstation exclusives that I finally got to play years after once it got a PC release. The OST for this one is definitely the highlight of my experience with it, since I played it solo. I think I lost something of the experience playing it that way. The last time I recall feeling something similar though is playing The Outer Wilds. Talk about music perfectly fitting a game. Haunting, beautiful, hopeful, other adjectives invoking a sense of awe.

I played Journey alone as well, but it was still beautiful.
Will surely get Outer Wilds next sale, been resting on my WL for years. Your description makes me eager to play it :)

I'll be frank, the game's core mechanic kept me from beating it (got 80-90% there I reckon). But do I regret playing the game? Not for a moment. The game does organic exploration in a way that I haven't seen since and I loved how creative it was its depiction of space.

Played this one last year (and gave a copy away here as well!) and since I have a soft spot for songs that build into a crescendo, 'The End of the Process' was right up my alley.

I just leave it here

Had a listen and now I want an updated take on 'Sooth my Soul.'

Guild Wars -Temple of Tolerance
I cannot get this one completely out of my head even though it's been a very long time since I played the original Guild Wars. There's plenty of other good ones in the soundtrack. Years later I even made an electronic "remix" in my head and keep thinking about it often :D

The first MMO I played with my friends and still the only one where I enjoyed playing a healer. This was a good memory and a reminder that I need to listen to more Guild Wars music!

JRPGs always offer some great music:
NieR: Automata - Weight of the World
There's a lot to hate gacha games for but the music is top tier:
Genshin Impact - La Signora Battle Theme
Genshin Impact - Scaramouche Battle Theme

That they do and I wish I could get past the "have to replay the game" to get the full story of Nier. Someday...
In fact as I was thinking of this topic, and the cobwebs from my mind were getting dusted, a song surfaced that's now stuck in my head and I've since been trying to identify. The Japanese vocals are not helping.
I haven't tried any of the modern gacha games yet (Maplestory is probably the closest thing), but Wuthering Waves recently released on Steam and I've been kind of interested in giving that one a go.

I would name the Doom Eternal or any of Supergiant's OSTs... but they are fairly well known
but the Path of Exile OST is really good to, you can also use it for free as a content creator of any Path of Exile related content and the OST(.flac) comes with basically all supporter pack purchases for the game.

Doom mentioned. Great, now I got to listen to all of my favorites again. We've all heard BFG Division, but when this is your main menu/pause track, you know you got something truly special. I bounced off Eternal and as a result, the soundtrack didn't get as much airtime for me, but the riffs continue!
I feel Supergiant's OSTs hit hardest whilst you're playing them (you'll actually see Supergiant recommend to play the games first on the Transistor and Pyre soundtracks) but there's some good stuff in there for the lay person as well. Bastion's got the western vibes, Transistor's got this which is unlike anything in the rest of the soundtrack, Pyre has 'Path to Glory', and Hades has this banger.
After giving Path of Exile a fair shake (some 50 hours, I'm hoping PoE 2 will be more my speed), the least I could've done was give the soundtrack a listen. And now I won't be forgetting this one anytime soon.

yea Supergiants OSTs hit hardest while playing them, this is true for most things soundtracks though.
for anime OST's... Symphogear has some great songs in it to, but they just hit harder during the show(partly because of alot of these are sang during battles(if you watch the show, you will understand)

I know I'm in a minority but I tend to turn off the music in every game I play around 2 mn in.
This being said I am still listening to is the Company of Heroes 2 OST

I've been listening to Ace Combat 3 remastered soundtrack (The soundtrack is remastered, not the game). It feels amazing listening to it while remembering some of the game's missions.

I'll pick a song from 5 games, but most songs in their soundtracks are great:
Roboquest
Dead Cells
Grandia II
Dread Templar
Devil May Cry 3

I haven't played many games where the soundtrack really stuck with me, but I can def recommend the Silent Hill 2 OG one.
Haven't played the remake so I can't really tell if the new one is better or worse.

Wow. Colour me surprised hearing this opening the soundtrack to one of survival horror's finest. It's a game genre I primarily experience through let's plays and lore videos due to being supernaturally challenged, so I'm glad you decided to share this one.
I think I prefer the remake version though, I just can't pass up a guitar solo.

Off the top of my head (sorry, no time for links right now):
That said, some of these only really work in context, so not sure how much enjoyment you get without playing the game first.
Edit: Shit, forgot Bastion and Transistor... Anyway, here is a more complete answer.

So it was you. The one who didn't remind me sooner just how smooth the music from World of Goo could be. In other news, World of Goo 2 released last month??
That's some discussion you've linked there. Truly a treasure trove of titular tracks. Bookmarked and will be revisiting over the coming days.
Some thoughts on the other recommendations:
The Witcher 3. On a rare occasion I'll come across a game, and I'll know. Booting this one up and listening to this in the start menu, and I knew. This game was going to be special. And it was.
I'm holding off to listening to anything from Hollow Knight, I plan to play this one soon™ and would like to know as little as possible.
This track convinced me to add Mirror's Edge to my waitlist. The soundtrack is just a mood.
Full Throttle reminded me how much I enjoyed the song selection in another Tim Schafer game, Brütal Legend (quite a variety here if you're into metal).
Finally, Nerevar Rising is a classic that I'm glad is still iterated on today.

I actually won the first game on here! That settles it, this is going to be the next game I play.

Never played Devil May Cry 5, but damn, that shop music is amazing! The one from Yakuza is great, as well.
If I can find the time next month (and remember to do it), I'll try to make a longer list; right now just a couple that come to mind (without being too obvious):
Far Amp Plains from Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time/Darkness/Sky - this track always gets me pumped somehow.
One of the battle themes (which I vaguely remember having a specific name, but can't find it right now) from Mario & Luigi: Dream Team - this one just brings me pure joy.
Trauma from Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective - I personally prefer this version over the one from the Switch remake, but that might be because that's how I first listened to it. What I like most about video game music is when it's atmospheric and manages to enhance the game's vibe. Thinking back to the moments when this track plays, it perfectly fits the bill. (I recommend not reading the comments if you're interested in playing the game and want to avoid spoilers.)
Violet Sky from Hotel Dusk: Room 215 - similar to the one above, this one just fits the moments it plays in in the most amazing way; it perfectly accompanies the feeling of relief and relaxation when all the lies are uncovered and the truth finally comes out. This, too, is a game where you should avoid spoilers.

Trauma's guitar (?) at the start makes me think of Midnight Mountain from Spyro 3.
Of course, everything makes me think of the Spyro trilogy, because I'm fairly obsessed with it.

So many songs. First one that comes to mind, though, is the final boss music from Lost Odyssey, a game I love and hope one day gets a proper port off of the aging 360.
There's also a game I haven't played yet that I heard recently that I thought had a really catchy tune for its mascot. The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy.
Oh and there's your first foray into a dying world in Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth. Which is actually two versions of the same song.

Looking back, I've not done the best job in keeping track of some of the fantastic music I've come across in the games I've played, and by god is there some good stuff out there. Heck, there were points in my life I've listened to whole soundtracks to games I've never even played. So here we go, it's playlist building time.
For my part, here's possibly one of the best shop tunes I've come across. It's from that spectacle fighter Devil May Cry 5. Capcom please. There be demons that need killing, I don't have
an hourmake that twookay I live here nowthe time to sit here groovin' with Nico. Oh wait, I do.For something from one of my more recent playthroughs, this one is from the dark and gritty Japanese gangster game, Yakuza 3. It's moments like these where I'll go, "Yeah, guess I am going to play every game in this series."
So whether it's an all time favorite or just something that caught your ear, drop a link or some details and I'll check them out. I'll be posting some more recommendations where I can in my replies, and for everyone else
