Im pretty bored of those "Yay, you saved the day! ^-^" type of movies.

Do you know any good movies with a somewhat sad ending or one where the villian wins? :)

I didn't expect this amount of suggestions.. thanks! <3

I found that ending to be merely shitty at best since it contradicts the very core of the movie.

On the flip side, the novel is a bit too optimistic in my opinion.

I think the end was actually what made the movie fantastic.

Man, that was an atrocious and stupidly effective ending. I mean, it was unrealistically melodramatic, but at the same time pretty well planned.

Memento.

Se7en is truly a masterpiece and perfect example, but Memento? It's quite the opposite, with a soul-warming and optimistic ending.

How was the ending of Memento even remotely soul-warming and optimistic? Are you sure you're talking about the same movie (maybe you were thinking of Cypher (another mind-screwy movie, one that was surprisingly good at it).

To add, to me Pan's Labyrinth, American Beauty, and Brazil has perfect endings. They all leave a similar aftertaste, but Pan's tone is a bit more serious throughout--one hell of a trip.

Comment has been collapsed.

"a cruelly malicious person who is involved in or devoted to wickedness or crime; scoundrel; or a character in a play, novel, or the like, who constitutes an important evil agency in the plot"

So yes, they are villains, no matter how vigilante they are.

A false world peace that will irrevocably lead to World War 3 once Rorschach's journal is published by the newspapers...meaning that, he and the thousands, if not millions of others who died in NYC to frame Dr. Manhattan will have died for nothing.
