Well, if that ever happened to me I would get heart attack on the spot. Did you have Steam Guard activated?
EDIT: Also AFAIK, the CC information on Steam is encrypted, o unless he got his hands on something more than you steam information, he is bluffing, contact Steam Support, your Steam Support is on separate account than your Steam so he shouldn't notice if you contact them.

If you did, he might have your email login information, so I would suggest to first of all format your PC so to get rid of any possible keylogers, then change your login information on your email and all other important accounts, and then contact Steam. Also obviously contact your CC company to block any anon purchases.

Isn't jumping straight to formatting your PC kind of... overkill...?

If it is a key loggers then he doesn't have any other option, better be safe than sorry, and what problem is there with formatting? if he has anything important he can move it somewhere else and just re-install everything after format. I personally format my PC at least every half year.
Also the keylogger might be there but he might not be able to find it, so really it's better be safe nthan sorry.

Eh, I have bad habits. I had to format about four years back and still never got around to putting everything back where it needed to go. 20GB of shit just sitting in a folder on my desktop. I expect the same to happen once I've built this new PC.

If he wants to get it clean ASAP and assuming he has everything backed up already, then a format and installation of Windows would not only be a lot quicker than any virus scan, but you'd have no chance of missing something like a scanner could.

1) contact your bank and tell them the card is compromised.
2) contact steam support and get your steam account by proving ownership.

Well this is what I do:

"Verify your pc, maybe you have an keylogger."
That should kind of be the first step, otherwise the other things are kind of rendered moot.

I don't think "Verify your pc, maybe you have an keylogger" should be last, but I do believe most people would and should call their bank first if they think their credit card has been stolen.
"They maxed by credit card and the bank said they wouldn't help, but at least I still have Steam account!"

Meh, getting a chargeback due to a compromised card is ridiculously easy, as least where I am. I can honestly say I'd be content to leave that until last.

Banks and credit card companies don't think too highly of people who allow these things to happen, so if you aren't concerned about your credit being impacted then sure!
I do somewhat doubt a bank would just hand over $10,000 if your card was maxed, but I've never been lucky enough to have it happen.

Eh, might be different with debit cards, but it's very simple to reverse charges at my bank and they don't care. I don't use a credit card and I doubt I ever will.

I'm not sure, and someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think as a user you can only see the credit card type and last four digits. He would not only have had to steal your account (relatively easy for a hacker) but he would also have had to have hacked Steam's credit card storage (much more difficult for a hacker, and this guy would have already used your credit card by now if that's what he wanted).
In short, I think your credit card is relatively safe and you should go ahead and contact support and do whatever else it takes to get your account back.

That's true, but, something I just thought of... this guy could buy games or other items on Steam with the guy's saved credit card info and not have to type that in ever. The same is true if he has the guy's email and can access other online business accounts.

did you recently installed the keylogger program got from giveawayoftheday.com?
edit: because some people found out it was sending anonymus log to unknown recipent, and well almost every1 was fckedup with GOTD for releasing such software without checking it.

Boom, you're back to normal!

Hey guys, I woke up this morning to find my steam account not logged in. Didn't say anybody else logged in, just said my credentials expired. So I say ok and send my password to my e-mail and I got an Anonymous message saying "Look i'm gonna make it as clear as i can , let the steam account in peace and i promise i won't use your credit card. If you do anything suspicious I'll make purchases with your credit card anonymously. Please help!!!
