Liège-Bastogne-Liège

Yes, another prediction event. :)

How it works

Predict who is going to win the race; that's all. :)

Entries close when the race starts. Since it's a one day race just enter your predictions below.

Once all the classics have finished I will create a special winner's event for everyone who correctly predicted a race giving them a shot at some nice games.

Race Preview

La Doyenne ("The Old Lady") is the last of the real spring classics; I'm not counting Rund um den Finanzplatz Eschborn-Frankfurt, just the name alone... We're deep in the Ardennes now with some serious climbs to be conquered. Also the site of the Siege of Bastogne during WWII.

  • The man to beat, Philippe Gilbert, sustained a kidney injury when he fell during the Amstel Gold Race (which he won, I might add), so unfortunately he won't be riding.
  • Nor will last year's winner Wout Poels as he is also still dealing with the aftermaths of an injury.
  • Three time winner Alejandro Valverde just won his fifth Flèche Wallonne in style on Wednesday and will be looking to make it four here.
  • Greg Van Avermaet who has won more classics than anyone this season will be there. In the past he skipped the Ardennes classics mostly. However, he has become a more complete rider and he wants to win all five monuments.
  • 2013 winner Dan Martin will be the sole focus for Quick-Step Floors since both Gilbert and Julian Alaphilippe are out with injuries.
  • With Wout Poels gone, Michał Kwiatkowski will be the man to do it for Team Sky.
  • Team Sunweb is bringing Tom Dumoulin (who had quite the season last year) and Warren Barguil (who I'm hoping will improve this season).
  • And Orica–Scott will start with 2014 winner Simon Gerrans and Michael Albasini.

Going for Alejandro Valverde.

The way he was in the Waalse Pijl and in that finale does give him good odds in Luik-Bastenaken-Luik.

It's going to be an interesting race, shame they took out the Stockeu though.

I agree, they've should have left it like it was before.

Alejandro Valverde does it again!

There's a reason he's called El Imbatido (The Unbeaten)...

At least Martin tried to beat him this time. No idea why most other favorites didn't attack early. Valverde is simply too hard to beat in that type of race in a sprint.

Yeah, Kwiatkowski had said beforehand they would make the race 'hard' and try and lose Valverde before the final. I think no one team can really do that; he's just too good.

The group was around 24 riders right until the finish. That is a big group for such a race and a rather obvious sign that the race was far from hard. At least make the race hard enough that Valverde has to work himself before the final 400 meters and can't just rely on his teammates the entire race.

Yes, this year was a-typical to say the least.

Depending on who will be starting next year might be quite different.
