I haven't read the books, but I've logged about 40-45 hours in each Metro 2033 and Last Light (the original versions). They're fantastic games. Eventually I hope to play the Redux versions as well.

Not a fan of horror shooters...especially not ones that try to be more realistic making Ammo harder to come by.
That said I own both titles in redux form so maybe some day I'll actually get to know the series.
(I own them in redux form cuz one of the bundles had given the original to me and I figured if I'm ever gonna play it it may as well be in redux form and if I'm ever gonna play the first then I might as well have the 2nd just in case and then the day came along that the redux bundle was relatively cheap)

A horror shooter in my book is anything where you shoot ravenous abominations that should not exist, often in dark areas with low visibility, and which employs jump scares.
It may not be a horror game exactly (if you classify survival horror as the only true horror), but if I had to explain why it was different from say the Battlefield series then horror elements would be the answer, hence horror shooter.

I'm really super not a fan of horror games, but I loved Metro 2033 and enjoyed Last Light. Most of 2033 is person-on-person type of action, not person on monster. I don't want to spoil it, but while there are monsters in the game most of the game is about you dealing with people and factions.
There are outdoor levels where it is almost completely monsters, and I didn't care for those. Not because of jump scares or things like that. It was more because I really got into the man vs. man stuff going on underground and the outdoor stuff wasn't as immersive to me.
Last Light has a lot more monster action. That might explain why I liked it less than 2033.

Liked both of the Metro games, although Last Light is vastly superior, if you ask me. But I really don't get how the game can be about Artyom... HE BLEW UP!!!!

Yeah, but that's the fake ending. The first game had an ending in which you (spoiler alert)... spare The Dark Ones. But it wasn't the canon one.

I have played Metro 2033 and it was very good, I love Helsing speargun, silent but deathly :D
But, I'm interested in their novels too. Is it good? Where can I read one, is there a comic book too?

First novel 2033 is really good. There's only one translation by Natasha Randall and it sucks. Some parts are missing and it's quite confusing.

i loved metro 2033, played it 4 times when it was released.
last light wasn't the same for me, i don't know exactly why but i got bored in one of the first maps.

Realty liked 2033 still have to play LL. I liked that they named the third one Metro 2035 (Probably), instead of some words. If it is based of a book name it like the book, plus it looks so much better in the game library.

i saved pavel and letsnisky, just for good ending (in my 2nd play, survival mode)
although in my first play (ranger mode) even when i KILL both, i still get good ending. that's kind F* up :p
in the end i corrected it by replay from red square mission and intentionally get more bad point (shoot any mutant i see)

On February 1, 2015 Dmitry Glukhovsky said that he and 4A Games are working on a new Metro game. Again, the game will be about Artyom. He also said that "game will surprise you in a pleasant (positive) way" and that "you have to wait minimum 2 years" before it will be ready.
