I love to take the netbook to travel due to size and weight, but a weak intel atom processor and intel graphics card does not allow you to run most of games.

What Steam games do you play on a netbook? Who can share their experiences?)

Specs of this monstro:

OS Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition

Processor / Chipset

CPU Intel ATOM N280 / 1.66 GHz

Chipset Intel 945GSE Express

Memory RAM 1024.0 GB

Point'n'Click adventures. They do not depend so much on resources.

Mini RPGs ("Cthulhu saves the World" for example. And check out "Mad Father") are also fun.

Simply stay away from Shooters and other games that depend on rendering huge 3D worlds (though I am able to run Max Payne 1 + 2 good on my 8 year old notebook, which also has only an Intel graphics chips).

I can play Penumbra Overature alright on my HP Mini 110, it's made by Frictional (the developers of Amnesia), as long as the graphics are set to as low as they can go.

It depends on your processor, most of the time Atom processors don't go above 2GHz, which is not enough to run The Binding of Isaac.

Frozen Synapse runs quite well, if you're into that sort of stuff. Also, Diablo II and, with some reduction in graphics settings, Morrowind. Those games can suck up quite a lot of your time.

Dude, did you read his posted specs? Morrowind will in NO way run on his machine. It is an absolutely amazing game, however, so I applaud you for your taste.

I run it on a netbook, albeit with an Atom N450. It's quite playable.

Anything from Spiderweb Software if you like RPG's. Not only are they AMAZING, but they are nostalgic and they will run on your rig.

Torchlight is notebook friendly. I also get Spacechem to work fine - you gotta adjust the res of the game cos it gets cut off due to small screen size.

I think you'd do well with Terraria. It's mad cheap, runs well on really weak hardware (pretty sure you'd be able to run it) and is a HUGE time sink.

Everything from before 2000, in my 5 year old netbook I can run Half Life and its sequels at 60 fps with everything on high.

Also Deus Ex.

I can't guarantee they will work, but Ys games have low requirements, you could give them a shot.

that's a classic netbook right there, have one of those too

i plan to check out what works and what doesn't during vacation, so i'm downloading a bunch of those small games on an external harddrive.
i know 'And yet it moves', and 'atom zombie smasher' works so far, i know deus ex 1 works too, but probably without mods.

Games like braid or binding of isaac doesn't work. Terraria also kind of dragged so it was unconfortable to play.

I don't have a netbook, but I think you should try Onlive for the games that have more requirements. That said, you should check this thread out.

I have basically the same netbook as the OP (ASUS Eee, 1.66Ghz Atom N280, 2GB RAM). When I was on vacation and couldn't sleep, I played FEAR 3 on Onlive. The picture quality of the stream won't be at maximum but it does work and it's perfectly playable. Onlive will warn you that it's not an optimal setup (and I also only had 1GB RAM at the time), but I found that picture quality has more to do with your internet connection than with your hardware - even on a low spec netbook.

I've personally played the Sims 1, GTA III and Vice City on my netbook (same specs as yours). I suspect most of the games on GOG.com would also work. You can also give Onlive a try (though it's more expensive). Like I replied to someone above, it will say that your specs are too low, but I never had a problem with it. Any degradation in picture stream quality was more about my net connection than netbook specs.

+1, but you may not have a large enough resolution. If you don't look around on the internet. There are programs to fake a higher resolution.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I've tried CS 1.6 with all the settings as low as they can go, but it tends to lag a lot. I don't know if it's because Valve is still updating it and that means parts of it are more modern and unfit for a low-end netbook or I just haven't tweaked it enough. Do you have any suggestions by any chance?

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

The only way that CS:S will run on that is if everything is set to LOW with no skins and you might possibly get 30fps.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Yeah, that's what I figured. I tried it once and then decided to keep CS on my fancy PC and stick with the less taxing stuff on the netbook. :D
