So I won my first giveaway a few days ago, yay!! It was for The Secret Order 2: Masked Intent, i like the occasional HOG. After waiting a few days, I got the key and in my rush and excitement, I went straight into steam to get my brand spanking new game, Masked Shooters 2... So i talked to him via Steam and told me he mis-clicked the game and it was always Masked Shooter 2, not The secret order. Now not that i want to look a gift horse in the mouth but do I put the game as received or not received? Seeing as they are different games?

Edit and update: I got the game The Secret Order 2: Masked intent by someone else who was kind enough to make up for the scam. Thank you very much to the person who gifted it to me.

Definitely not received. If you mark it as received, you can get flagged for not activating the game by SGTools.

The game is activated, as I had no way of knowing which game it was. I just dont know if it's a received game even if it was the wrong giveaway.

check the lastest game name under steam>username at right top corner>account details>view licenses and product key activations

There was a 'game' activated but not the one that GA was for. Its not your fault if you were given a different key but dont mark it as recieved if you didnt active the same game as the GA said.

A GA goes through a review link where the game name and thumbnail is clearly visible. Even when putting it up he knew what 'Mistake' he did and could have deleted it. He is clearly fooling you and hoping for free CV off a free game. Do not mark received and contact support!

Mistake is when you GA Mafia II and host it as Mafia II Deluxe due to bundle miscommunication. I can't give away Deadbreed beta and call it Far Cry 4 by mistake.

Mark it as "not received". if it's alright with you, the gifter is allowed to chance the giveaway to "masked shooter 2" (write in the giveaway that you're fine with it, and the gifter can contact support about it). Once the giveaway has been changed to the right game, you can mark it as received. That is, if you're fine with it.

Would renaming it just validate the giveaway creator's original intent to give away games that are on the no-no list?

Ah, I did not know Masked Shooter 2 was on the no-no list. Well, guess support would deny it (it's getting hard to keep track of all the free junk...)

The giveaway was for 2 copies, so I guess they would have to work that out with both winners. Also the game was given out for free and therefore cannot be given away, so I'm not sure how that would work either. Best option would probably be to just delete the giveaway.

He/she couldn't find it because it was free. Also it's his/her responsibility to provide the right game for you. You should mark as not recieved if creator doesn't give you the correct game.

NOT RECEIVED. Or else you'll get in trouble yourself. Also don't believe him, the game is free and he just wanted to get free CV on the site.

masked shooters... suuuuuuure it was a "mistake"

remove feedback and mark as not received after 7 days. if you want, let the guy know what happened, but i doubt he will replace the key with a proper one.

No, he doesnt have it, he sent me another key though, for Relic Hunters Zero, a free game on steam.

Mark the game as not received. Doesn't matter how many keys they send you if it's not the correct one. The Relic Hunters Zero key they also got for free. If you use it you will be able to get card drops for the game though.

you could report him for misleading giveaway, but I doubt it will be taken care of soon.

Well he did send me another key in compensation, I would have appreciated it had it not been Relic Hunters Zero, a free game on Steam.

Still not a reason to mark it as recieved.

Still, you can get suspended if you don't redeem the games you won, and it will happen if you mark it as received considering he didn't send you a key for the game he made the giveaway for.

Mark as unrelieved until he can deliver the correct game. You will get punished for marking as recieved and not owning the game by getting a temporary ban. Him giving you another key is trying to bribe you.

If you don't receive the proper game and acknowledge it as received you will do more harm for yourself than good for the other person.

No matter what people do to try and redeem themselves, unless they send you the actual game advertised for the giveaway, do not mark as received. Doing so will make your account look bad, marking it as not activating games you won, which is against the site rules. Only mark received if you get the proper game. Just to clarify why you shouldn't...

Masked Shooters 2 is a free game from massive gleam GAs. What a coincidence!

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

You can't mark it as received because you will be locked out of all private sgtools giveaways that check for broken rules and you may also end up having your SG account temporarily suspended in the future if someone reports you for having an unactivated win. The best bet would probably be to have the giveaway deleted. I think both winners would have to agree to have it deleted.

have the giveaway deleted

...and have the scammer get away with it?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Maybe it was a mistake. It was his first giveaway and it's only a 99 cent game.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

That's even worse. If it's such a cheap game, the right thing to do would be to just buy a key...

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I think the right thing to do would be to give him the benefit of the doubt and allow the giveaway to be deleted. It's not like he has broken rules multiple times or there is any proof that he did it on purpose. He has only won 1 game and this was his first giveaway. No harm is done, he doesn't get credit for the giveaway and the winners get to keep the wrong games that were provided. People make mistakes.

Ask him/her to provide the correct key again first (which most likely won't happen)...

Do yourself a favor and save a screenshot your conversations with the GA creator (andmaybe the person who gifted you the game as well.)
