I guess everyone ( part of community which is active on forums at least ) on this site has their 'inner circle' of people who they like or have constant pleasant interactions with . I realized that then i make some semi-accessible giveaways ( not WL,not group ones ) i do wish some people would win instead of others. Maybe i know them , maybe they have lots of send and few wins or maybe they just bumped my thread.

How about you?

Do you care who wins your giveaways?

View Results
Yes i do in all cases.
No i don't in any case.
I care if it's better quality/more expensive game.

Publics - no, unless they're rule-breakers, but then I report them.
Group/whitelist - obviously, or they'd be publics.

Yeah but for example in group there could people you like more and less .

No "both" option in the poll.
If I "root" for anyone in a giveaway, it's usually someone who hasn't won much.

In general I prefer that if someone under 100 wins gets the game, and/or someone who is not just mostly plays CS:GO, Dota 2, TF 2, and other games more associated with their underground economy and infamous player base than their actual goddamn gameplay. But I send the keys nonetheless and just use SGTools protections for a select few.

Well, if you are asking this directly: still having a featured CS:GO item showcase, last played game is CS:GO, CS:GO makes up over 25% of your Steam play time, and according to SteamDB, it seems like at least another quarter of it was nothing but idling for cards, leaving over half of the library untouched. I'm sorry, but I think there are users where some games would find a better home and not just have a roughly 50-50 chance of gathering virtual dust if I have to form an opinion on your profile.
Still, if you won, I'd still send the game in question. I have seen small miracles happen in the past.

Well, I do not play the game (I played it waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back when it was simple Counter-Strike 1.2-ish and even more its Unreal Tournament '99 mod counterpart that had working bots by then), so I did not know that. You are right in the sense that people judge by short glances, and while I may go beyond first impressions, there is a bias. It is unavoidable on the internet among strangers living in different countries to boot.

Don't forget all the idling for drops. I have almost 200 hours in CSGO and never played a single match. Just gimme the moniez $_$

I'll… try not to post my raw opinion of idling a video game only for some small virtual money instead of at least playing it. =)

Was never interested in CSGO myself, only got it because a friend was pressuring. Who apparently quit just a couple weeks later so we never even played a match, lol.
As for the idling I leave my pc on overnight doing nothing anyway so might as well do something with it :P

I know someone with over 3000 hours in CSGO, all spent idling to make money to buy games to give away.
I'd say that is a very good use of idling.

Wouldn't have it been easier to just turn off the PC and get the same amount of money by not spending it on the electricity bill?

Electricity is cheap here, but I have no idea how much it would cost elsewhere to idle.
My server is on 24/7. Idling doesn't cost me much more, if anything. I don't own CSGO, though (meaning, I have no idea the worth of idling it).

A small server can be different, though. I am trying to save up money to make a small little server for home. It would need like 10 Watts or lower to run under normal load. And yeah, electricity is not cheap here in comparison. (About twice the US prices, but the average income is roughly one-sixth.)

I won't tell you my average monthly electric bill then. :X
And yeah, my server is built to use as little power as possible. My gaming rig, on the other hand, gets turned off when I'm done with it.

If i giveaway a really good game, it's always preferable if someone wins it who will really enjoy it

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Depends on the game. If it's a game I've played and enjoyed myself like This War of Mine or Recettear or a Telltale game etc then yeah, it kinda bothers me if it just becomes a +1 in someone's library and never touching it. It's the same reason I've been steadily playing my wins over the past few months(12 of them played since January so far, bout to start my 13th today).

If the game is shovelware Card Farming Simulator 2017 then no, I couldn't care less.

Sometimes they post really encouraging comments and/or are extremely polite with their netiquettes , i doesn't matter if they have a negative ratio as long as they are nice in the comments i always root for them to win . :D

Pretty fair assessment. I do for example have intention to play all my wins ( especially recent ones because i'm really selective to what i enter in lately ) but i have more backlog than i have free time so struggle is real :x But if someone like you would actually check my 'intentions' to play their wins situation would be 50/50 really. Intentions are there but time often is not.

Usually i dont , but sometimes when i make 50 copy GA and 20% of ppl who won have me blacklisted , it kinda gets on my nerves :c

Permalink

For that kind of giveaway, if this is a recurrent case for you, add a disclaimer like :
"I know some of you blacklisted me, however I don't care and if you win the gift, I hope you will enjoy it and that it will make your life (or your day) happier..."

Just a suggestion and/or a way to try to influence them and your own mood positively.

I dont really care who wins, as long as they arent rule breakers. If I had a more "expensive" game to give, then Id probably care a bit more and just send it to the people on my whitelist, but for public gibs, not a big deal who gets it.

Though it always makes me pretty happy to see when my game goes to someone as their first win. I remember how excited I was with my first win, so Id like to imagine I just made someone else that happy too lol

I don't really care too much, but I do check my winners for nonactivated wins, multiple wins and regifts.

Yes. I expect someone who thanks (after winning) wins them.

Imho, shovelwares are just useful for trading cards so I don't really care.

However, I always appreciate a TY.

For specific or interesting games I prefer them to go to people that have a minimum interest in playing them.

Public I mostly do low level to catch rule breakers
Private group I do care. Like I need to save money so when I spend it I hope it doesn't go to waste ;-;

Edit: I've also been trying to give better games so hopefully more are likely to play! I was happy about my last winner because it seems like the perfect game for her and I've already seen screenshots of her playing it! :3

I think no, just always check winner by rules on sgtools. Giving in small groups like 2hus army it's more pleasant than in giveaways with a lot of entries.

I mean, I'm happy to see my whitelisted users win, but in the end I really don't care who wins as long as they check out.
But of course it sucks if you spend good money to make some nice giveaways and the winner just ends up idling the game.

Depends on the game. I never do public giveaways. If I do private giveaways for games I prefer would go to someone who will actually care, I put them behind a puzzle of some kind, and/or set it to a level requirement.
