This is the first time I've seen something like this implemented into a game on steam. This is a pretty kool concept in my opinion and I have a feeling we're going to start seeing this in a lot more games moving forward.

TL;DR ~ You and your friends need to be in a same group to play coop. There is a menu option to change your group and an NPC called "Event Manager" helps you with the group stuff in the game.
This idea seems to be an improvement over Capcom's squad system on consoles from Reddit comments where the same article is posted on various subreddits.
