Hello,

I often check if i'm still above 0$ on certain groups for the difference given/received, and i had a surprise to see a big drop on one of them. After a dig, i managed to find the game that did that : https://store.steampowered.com/app/937780/_The_Tactics_of_War/
This game just had its price going from 8,19$ to 97,50$ ! As can be seen here : https://isthereanydeal.com/game/tacticsofwar/history/ in the log.
The weirdest thing is that my drop was this sum, meaning values are not capped at 50P on groups difference count ?
Is there something that can be done for this special case, or i'm going to have to seat on it and get back above 0 ?

Thanks !

Correct. Each of this abusive/exploiting games is calculated with the full price.
Which means that in, bad, groups the ones that are in the high stats are often black sheeps and the stats not more worth as toilet paper (before Corona).

Is there something that can be done for this special case, or i'm going to have to seat on it and get back above 0 ?

The owner should kick people that do such GAs.
If this don't happen, you know it is a bad group and should leave it.
Nothing else you can do.

Supporting such groups with more, good, GAs would be the wrong way to go because the people that do such exploiting GAs are the ones that have the biggest advantage from it.

It's not really an exploit; i won this game more than one year ago, and the price just suddenly went through the roof, the gifters might not even know it. This game was bundled a few times.

That is correct in this case but the most that give away the exploiting games, give not only one of them away.
It is easy to spot which ones want a advantage from it and which ones have a "unplanned advantage".

Nothing to be done. Just give away in the group.

It's a steal at this point. What are the devs thinking?

The devs are thinking "hey other devs seem to be doing this so I guess it'll make my game sell better?"
It seems counter-intuitive to raise the price of trash to sell more of it but it's 2023 so all bets are off when it comes to sanity. Logic and maths need not apply.

The cap has never been for cv count, it's only there to limit how many points you need to enter a giveaway. But it's still strange that it's counting the full value, the game shows to be bundled from 2020, so the cv should be 15% of that no?

Also I've seen that some games that abuse their price have the cv change $0, but that could take some time as there's only one person in charge of updating the list. Also someone would have to report the game I guess.

No it's not a CV issue, as the game value is counted in groups, not the real CV. But i thought it was capped there too, and it's not apparently.

It's not surprising you wouldn't understand. You haven't done a giveaway yet for something you didn't farm for free from some shady website. But for the people who keep this site alive, who spend actual money for the games they give away or for members of groups that use a ratio system fake CV is a quite annoying problem.

Honestly I would just leave that group if I was in your position and if such variations aren't considered exceptions to their CV rules, you shouldn't have to deal with a random developer's BS pricing practices.

I really think that SG should lock the price of the game upon marking the game as received. Price changes after this point should not change the group ratio.

I highly recommend steamgifts owners to apply this practice

Here are some of the stupid games that got their prices go up to about 100$/€ : https://store.steampowered.com/curator/33134642-hede-games/
I got 2 others...

https://store.steampowered.com/bundle/20620/ALL/ is the bundle with a list of their games on the steam store. Nearly all of them are conveniently around that price tag.

i have all of them bar a few :(

Ouch, you took a big hit indeed :( I have a dozen, but only 3 or 4 won on Steamgifts...

If ever those games would get banned from Steam, i suppose their price on SG would still stay the same ? We're screwed ?

We can hope the developer/publisher will see sense and revert the price rises on steam or cg can do something with games like this that are just raising their prices in my opinion maliciously. i know some tickets have gone to support and they are aware of this issue. Lets hope a solution can be worked out for these games and others of their ilk in the future!

Good luck.

Others and i wait since over 3 years that he adjust very few game prices, the tickets got "forwarded" to him. Obvious nothing happened in all the time.

Yes.

Not when you are in, good groups, that prevent that such "games" can be gifted away.

Leave the bad groups, problem solved.

You know i can find some of those games even in your group, does that make it a bad group ? Of course not. The groups where i dropped in gift difference are not bad groups, they have rules, but those games at the time were only some largely freely distributed asset flips (in various shady sites) at 2 or 5 or 10P that looked dumb but could be a little fun sometimes, you could not expect them to do this stunt. Well, at least not in those proportions.

When i browse the members lists, it is now extremely disproportionate, a few people with big positive difference, and now a majority of people in the negative. It touched a lot of people this time, maybe all those tickets you talk about might have a sudden bump.

Bah, first world problem, it's not very important.

That's new for me.

Largely, freely, distributed asset flips from shady sites aren't the GAs that are normal/usual for our group.
Maybe they are from the beginning times of the group where the group rules weren't made to prevent such trash game GAs because we not expected that this ""loophole"" get exploited (we learned our lesson very fast...^^). Or we overseen a (few) bad GA (humans can't see all).
So please send me links to the GAs and we take a closer look and handle the situation if we see it as needed (after looking at it we will decide that together as staff of the group -but i assume, right now, the GAs will be deleted-).

To the other groups, it gave reasons why i left groups that you are (still?) member of. And not positive ones. So we see them clearly in a other light and have different opinions about their "quality"^^ (which is ok for me).

It touched a lot of people this time, maybe all those tickets you talk about might have a sudden bump.

I am not more very active on sg and gave up my hope with cg, at least, 6 months ago. I seen too many years that he don't care as long as his money purse/earnings isn't hit.

I wish you the best but i think it is still a very small chance.

Bah, first world problem, it's not very important

Yes, all with sg are a luxus/first world thing, so the problems too ;o)

There really weren't a lot, and probably from people who got them from DIG bundles, many regular people buy bundles here just for the games, and not by thinking of making any profit on giveaways (at least i do that - and rarely play them :D ), let it slide. If you really want to see them, just search for games from there : https://store.steampowered.com/bundle/20620/ALL/
