I just notice this person who has won a ton of games with 1 entry private giveaways all from the same person?!?
https://www.steamgifts.com/user/malice505/giveaways/won

I don't want to attack anyone personally. I realize there's private and whitelist giveaways that get very little people, but 1 entry giveaways as many as that? If this is more common, this website is not working very well IMO, at that point just give the code to the person...

Edit: I'm not trying to attack the person in case.

Private and group giveaways with less than 5 entries do not contribute to level progress.

Okay, that at least makes more sense. Even 5 entries seems very low IMO. I could very easily invite 10 friends and do a circle for raising level. I thought the amount would be greater. Thanks for the reply.

That "circle" might trigger checks that point to one person using multiple accounts and get them permanently suspended.

I'm not saying me using multiple accounts, I meant, if that's the rules, I could literally invite 10 friends (10 real accounts) and do that.
I won't do that, as I find it rotten and against the whole website idea, when I want to give to a friend I do outside of here. But the fact that it can be done means it very likely has been done.

I did not want to say you are doing it.

But if someone is doing it, it might get those accounts suspended.

I know you didn't mean "me" I just meant no one person with multiple accounts, but real accounts(friends).

I hope you are right about that.

This is nothing new. I remember one case distinctly: There was a group of users (friends or perhaps one user with multiple accounts) who all did giveaways that ended with exactly 5 entries and the winners were always one of the 6 accounts involved in the ring. They even logged in at roughly the same time every day. To add insult to injury, many of them participated in low-entry community giveaways hidden behind challenging puzzles. It was obvious that they were sharing links.

This went on for over a year. Eventually, the two prominent members of the group got perma suspended and the rest became inactive soon after.

Yeah that's just bad. I get why the entry level is 5+ entries to faciliate whitelist and such where only those who truly want the game to enter and the giveaway be valid, but people will take advantage when it's easy to go around. It's very easy to get enough friends to do that.
Even 10 people is easy to many people, I have over 15 in real life friends on steam, but at least that would already deter a bit more people from doing it. It's always harder to get 10 people on board than 5, at the very least, requires the double amount of effort to pull off.

Some might take advantage of this, but making it any higher would make life really hard for groups like Unlucky 7, where users have to be extremely picky about the giveaways they enter because they can only win 7 games before they have to leave the group. Less popular unluckies only giveaways can end up on the low side. Same for groups where you have very limited entries like Xmas Year Round where you have to earn tickets to enter giveaways. Occasionally, some less popular giveaways don't even make it to 5, let alone 10. Both games I won from this group had only 6 entries, which is just over the threshold, thankfully. Would have been sad not to get the CV of a full CV game.

Oh, I thought that <5 entries would also not count or affect the CV/Ratio numbers. Is it just about user level, or is it all connected?

Permalink

They still count to Gift sent (Sent value) but it gets adjusted (Bundled/Heavliy discounted, Free/Less than 5 entries) for CV that is used for Level.

Doesn't work. Need 5 entries minimally. On top of not being in the bundled/free/cheap list.

No.

But let me add...

I checked many thousands of profiles but i only seen 2 cases (with 1x 3 accounts and 1x 2 accounts) of similar amounts of private only GAs with only 1 entry and other stuff that i don't write here.
And in both cases all the accounts got perma suspended for multiaccounting.

This doesn't mean it must be the same in this case and i don't attack one of the involved users/accounts but it clearly doesn't look "normal".

I dont understand the point in the cases that have 1 entry. You dont get any cv for it so what is it those users are trying to do? Increase their sent numbers or what?

Yes, this was what they did with them.
That the main account stats looked much better. The big account gifted stuff, the little accounts won them and of course the user never gifted a game and never bought a key to deliver the games.

Were it stupid in the end?
Yes.
Special, because the involved main accounts were lvl 7 and 8.

Yeah overall that's my feeling. It's not "normal" and like you said bellow, only seems to make the account ratio look better, although in this case, the person seems to have an alright ratio, so it's more strange.

So it definitely looks suspicious at first glance, but it is possible the gifter is running Discord events, Twitch streams, or something similar and giving only the "winner" the link to the invite only GA. The user you mentioned isn't the only one that has won single entry GAs from them and they've done a bunch of public and normal looking invite only GAs as well so it seems like they're a legit user and the person you're asking about may just be really lucky or really persistent. At the same time, I don't know why you wouldn't just give the person the key directly on Discord/Twitch/whatever if that's the case, but the gifter has only been on SG for 2 months so that may be why they don't see it as odd (or they're just trying to boost their sent number, which is also possible).

maybe the rules of having all wins activated and such here, makes it so they don't have to manually check each person against a bunch of games they could have gotten from them in the past... also helps prevent multi accounting some from joining them. Easier to use a SGtools activation check than manually check the persons library for many games.

that is something I definitely see as a reason.

At least you can see that with all of the giveaways, the account is only credited for 6 giveaways.

you don't get cv for GA with less than 5 people joining we do know that

Valthirian Arc: Hero School Story is NOT my win, it's my giveaway! i had 2 copies of the game, i made 1 giveaway of it for my friend's group which unfortunately was won by an account that didn't activate it to their own steam account (I'm guessing they just traded it) so i just blacklisted them rather than reporting and told my friend to remove them from the group. then i asked her if she wanted the other copy and gave it to her basically
all my wins are activated to my own account btw and you can check for yourself

How it has been "MONTHS" when both your accounts are only 2 and 3 months old and you won a public giveaway 18 days prior to all 1 entry "giveaways". And they won a game only a week before your gifts.

her last won giveaway (that is not me) is actually almost 2 months ago now that's what i meant, for the amount of giveaways she did and her entries that's considered quite unlucky so i honestly see no problem trying to raise that a bit
i genuinely don't think we're breaking any rules or being "unethical" but if we are then do let me know

you mean noct? what did she do though? she's been an avid giveaway maker so far because she buys a lot of mystery bundle so whenever there are duplicates (or games she already owns) she gives them away on here either to public or to friends

Boosting her giveaway count.

that wasn't the intention though i assure you, are there any benefits from raising the total number of giveaways made? i'm pretty sure she'd delete them if this is against the rules, is it actually? even if there's no cv behind it? if so i can let her know maybe this would clear the suspicion

The mystery seems solved, lol.

I can think of two other legit reasons why there might be only one entrant to giveaways as a pattern, in general:

Pay or play group rules
Group birthday/holiday gifts, Secret Santa events, etc...

one of my giveaways was actually a late birthday present, i didn't even tell her at first that it was for her only
i love how this all is just way sillier than people think, my username is not helping my case either DAMN

The explanations given really don't do it for me. Why not just give the person the game (key)? Some weird fetish about seeing space cat seems like the only sensible explanation to me...
