What do IndieGala Points do exactly?

I love indie gala. They provide awesome deals and allow you to donate to charity while still getting what you love, games. Well I usually get a lot of copies for friends and such. Then i noticed......these magical Gala Points. I have a lot of them but i seriously have no idea what they do. If you know what they are meant for, please let me know. Thank you.

Nobody knows. They keep saying they'll be useful in the future, but we'll see, haha.

A random stranger said that the points are for early access.
1,000 points for 3 day early email + early purchase and 10,000 points for 7 day early email + early purchase.

The random stranger was probably lying.

Good thing you asked a bunch of strangers on SteamGifts, and not the actual people who are behind IG. The same people that already said "nothing, for now". Please, make a fourth unclear and/or pointless thread.
