The game is awesome. With my brother we spent over 68 hours in it. Playing the previous game helps with the story but you don't have to play it to enjoy the sequel

For the current price, you should definetly get both Arkham Asylum and Arkham City. Both are amazing games, worth every penny. Both should run at the very least 15 hours each, granted you complete most tasks and extras, which is a lot of fun and doesn't feel like a hassle, like most games nowadays.
You won't regret it.

Arkham Asylum was very good but I do not share these sentiments in regards to Arkham City. I am not sure what patches have done but there were significant game breaking bugs (cut scene issues, infinite loading loops) and the story was not that good. WB support is the worst I have ever dealt with. If you are a big Batman fan then it may be worth it but personally for the frustration it caused I would have never bought it.

hell yeah, city makes reference to asylum but not necessary to play before hand if i remember, you will get at least 12-15hours for first time completion and even more with new game+ and challenge maps should you choose to do them, Enjoy!

I would get it if I could, but it's not available in my region. Tried to trade 2 or even 3 games for it, but no luck for now. So, yeah, if you can, get it.
