Portal and Minecraft!
I also thought BF3 was really good, though I only played the beta.

Any game out of the Total War-Series. You can choose one of them, except Napoleon, which I don't like very much, and Shogun II, which I haven't played yet (maybe after the Steam Christmas Sale. Who knows... :)).

I have played Fallout 3 and Elder Scrolls 4 for hundreds of hours so they're definitely of my favorite game list, but my number one goes to Half Life 2. That game blew my mind when I first played it, and I can't wait for Episode 3 (even though Valve won't make it for like 20 years).

Stronghold 3; it's polished and bug-free and that's a rarity at launch.

Don't know if I have any particular favourites, but I've really enjoyed what I've played of Company of Heroes, Civ IV and V, Magicka, Frozen Synapse, Braid, The Last Express, and Broken Sword I and II.

AC Brotherhood, Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, are among my favourites, but i'm rather partial to some Borderlands at the moment, epic game :)

If Borderlands 2 manages to fix what few flaws the first one had, then we may be looking at one of the greatest games of all time. Never before has a shooter been able to take up so much of my time (excluding multiplayer ones like TF2).

Out of interest, what did you dislike about the first?

It was almost flawless but there were a few small things.
1) Poor story (usually this would be a deal-breaker for me but the gameplay more than makes up for it)
2) The game is insanely easy to the point of being boring if you have anything less than 3 or 4 players
3) Although funny at first, Brick gets very obnoxious the longer you have to be around him and he makes sniping almost impossible when he's using his berserk because everyone around him has to deal with a shaking screen every time he punches.
4) Although there is a huge variety of weapons, roughly 90% of them are just vendor trash and you'll typically end up with roughly the same weapons by the end
4a) When you do the second playthrough, the weapons you find are worse than what you'll start out with from beating the game until you're roughly half way done.
5) Very minor things such as some of the challenges being either virtually impossible without glitching (the last hangtime challenge) or require so much work that nobody is ever going to even try to get them (killing 2500 guardians)

True enough I suppose. I completed the vanilla game twice on PC and then I bought the GOTY edition cheap on Amazon so I could try the DLC - the first two are really good in particular. I've completed it once on there, and I intend to start another game soon. My only major complaint is that the game is a genuinely fun challenge until you beat Sledge (the coolest and hardest boss, relative to your experience and health/weapons up to that point) but after that it gets pretty easy. I think the initial learning curve is fine, but the difficulty needs to remain constant the more you level up, as opposed to dip after the first 1/3 of the game.

It's a shame, and as you say if you have one or two half-decent humans helping you then it's a walk in the park. That said, I've played very little MP and all my completed campaigns have been solo.
