Some of you may remember that a couple of weeks ago I was sitting at 999 Steam achievements, so I solicited the SG community for ideas on what to get for my milestone 1,000th achievement. I got a lot of excellent suggestions. I eventually decided on what my 1,000th achievement would be:
Drogglejug from Deponia

And then an unfortunate sequence of events took place:

  • First, I was immersed in work due to an important task I had to finish (upon whose completion I offered up a (now-expired) CV5 celebratory giveaway). So I didn't have a chance to work on my Achievement.
  • Then, I won this giveaway. [doesn't sound so unfortunate, does it?]
  • Then, I launched the game to idle for cards, pressed a button, and to my horror, got the Achievement popup for "Getting Thirsty..."

So I cried in my Tea. To console myself, I got the rest of the achievements (which as you may know, only takes an hour or two).

When I finally got a chance to work on Drogglejug, I worked for about 90 minutes on it, and realized this was going to take me forever. Then I got to one of the cutscenes, and the game crashed before I'd even saved once. I am an idiot. And really, the prospect of starting over and plodding through to the completion of the achievement no longer appealed to me. Instead, I offer this sacrifice to the achievement gods, and hope that one of you wins it and obtains the achievement that has so far eluded me.

In closing, thank you all for your suggestions and for humoring me. I wish I had been able to come through with my side of the bargain.

I did, at least, manage to take a screenshot of my profile after my (lame) 1,000th achievement:

Play some games for Fun, count your achievements, and celebrate 1111th? :) Or it can be 1024, lots of tech folks would say it's a much more round number than 1000 ^^ Don't let your spirits down, it's quite easy to find another quite close, legit goal :)

I like your thinking-- thanks. Maybe someday I'll go back to Drogglejug. But it's a big of a slog, and not particularly enjoyable except after it's over.

Yeah, he should totally go for 1024.

Man that gives me some nostalgia.....reminds me of the time when SVGA at 1024x768 was the top end of resolution and monitors were all CRT and heavy as hell.

Congrats on the milestone! Have you looked at Tales of Maj'Eyal? It has 1,395 achievements! I'm afraid to start for fear that I might never get to play another game on Steam. :)

Drugglejug isn't too long by the way, unless you really actually want to sit through all the "dialogue". If you speed through the game knowing the solutions already, it is about 90 minutes.

Based on the time it took me to get to when it crashed, it was going to be much more than 90 mins. I had a walkthrough right in front of me. Sometimes you need to select dialog choices to open up other dialog choices...but of course you don't know which choice to make so you end up doing all of them.
If you can do it in 90 mins, then hats off to you. =)

I almost said I did it, but my achievements page says I unlocked it 24 minutes after getting the game completion achievement. o.O
I did the trilogy by playing it as standalones and Complete at the same time (was tricky to set it up with that strange engine…), but I recall that the drugglejug one was quite fast. Double-click travelling between areas, some item optimisation… the first and third games were a lot shorter to redo on the fly than the second one.

If you unlocked it 24 minutes after completing the game for the first time, then I suspect you were able to get the exploit working where you start in Drogglejug mode, then load a save right before the end of the game. I tried it and it didn't work for me. There's no way, IMO, to speedrun the entire game in 24 minutes, Drogglejug or not.
okay, maybe if you had the entire thing memorized, but still...

That may have been it. As I said, I played them in a way that I finished the game by actually playing it twice at the same time, but I thought I did a full drugglejug run. But that time indicates I did use the save file, yes.
Still, I remain with my opinion about the first game being really short, because my Complete Edition shows a two hour run time on all achievements in the Deponia part of it. And that includes the additional sequence in the post office with the cats (when you have to do the opposite of the puzzle solution), the reverse gravity thing with the crane in the second segment, and the "push the levers a lot" and eat everything achievements in the third, which all just add up dead time.

There is an 'exploit' to obtain the Drogglejug achievement in a much easier way by loading a save from the normal playthrough at a spot near the ending (there is a Steam guide about this, and I can confirm it works). I don't consider it 'cheating' for that kind of achievement since it boils down to going through an otherwise tedious process that doesn't merit any skill, only a waste of time. Of course, you might be of a different opinion.

I tried that several times and it never worked for me. I don't know if they fixed the exploit, or if it just doesn't work for some configurations. Other people couldn't get it to work either. =(
But yes-- I'd be perfectly happy with that solution. I guess I could try it again.

Try launching the game in German before loading the save (the save files work independently of the language). I think the achievement description somewhere mentioned that it had trouble unlocking in English. I couldn't get it to work in English either, but loading a save and then finishing the game in German did the trick.

I have droggeljug. I got it immediately after i first played deponia (went for second playthrough) so that the game was still fresh in my mind and I used some youtube playthroughs to hit some dialogue options I needed to move the plot. I played it on silent too. :p

Yeah, it's the dialog plot-movers that are a bit of a pain in the arse when you can't-- you know-- see the dialog.

Congratulations!

I just realized that I missed seeing my thousandth achievement! Wondering what milestone I should shoot for. Right now I'm at about two thousand and three hundred, so two thousand and five hundred makes a bit of sense. Or 3k. And it has to be something really good.
And oh my god, those surprise ones are absolutely terrible. Give me a challenge, dammit. Don't "reward" me for loading up a game. Though that's just me being far too nitpicky for my own good. And uppity. Eh.
