Any1 else has this problem? Steam is using 10-20% of my cpu in idle mode, no downloads or anything. However, when I go into offline mode my steam's CPU usage changes to 0-1%, I've googled it but couldn't find any fixes.

Is there a difference in the usage when more or less friends are online?
(if you have a 2nd account with few or no friends, this would be also a way of testing)

Ok, now you know that the steam-client is probably just an unoptimized piece of software ;-) . Itยดs think with multiple friends the "checkfriendstatus"-routine is done multiple times. But why deleting friends...10-20% on idle does not mean that on high usage of other programs steam still uses so much cpu-speed. At least you could reduce the priority.

ps: another point, even desktop cpu nowadays throttle down on low usage...so 20% usage on idle/ down throttled could be comparable to 5% usage of maximum

i already noticed that steam uses allot cpu if you have problems with your internet connection like internet drops or a really slow internet, same happens with all games if you are playing online (i noticed this because my internet is always dropping, tried with my phone internet same happens but while i was in vacations in a friends house steam was pretty fast and same with csgo online)
if your internet is ok maybe your cpu is very low spec or maybe you have too much trash on your computer, there are some free softwares that can solve that for you (by trash i mean temp files)

Having other 30 tabs opened in Google Chrome, and Steam running, only using 4% of the CPU, going up to 12% for a second and then back to 4% when opening Steam library.
