I'm pretty sure the use of piracy is condemned in this forum(even tho you could say it's not piracy bla bla bla, they don't care). It's better for you to close this topic. Or update with a solution that doesn't involve PB or torrents.

Edit:

Piracy, pornography, and other material that may be inappropriate to a general audience should not be posted to the site.

Just close this.

How can this thread be piracy and the one teaching how to VPN not? Again... What's the difference between this initiative or downloading a rom of a game that you already own the physical copy? One more time and i'll stop asking... If i won this game, how downloading it alternatively can be piracy?

Is not me that you have to convince. I've seen people get suspended for similar posts. And I couldn't care less if you do actual piracy or not.
And how do you see VPN as piracy?

But they might be more ok with it now. And why do I even bother to care?

This whole stuff is a huge grey area. Using a VPN could be seen as piracy, from the point of view that Ubisoft made the offer available for a certain region, but people not entitled to the offer circumvented the region lock and now own a copy they didn't have the right to. I'm not certain of the actual legal aspects, but there might be local laws in your country, laws in China, or international treaties on Intellectual Property that you might've infringed from doing this.

As for the game, they're two different products. They may technically be the same game in different languages, but the developer/publisher made the decision to distribute and license them separately. Having the rights to one does not give you the rights to the other, unless it's specifically allowed in the Chinese version's license.

Unless your countries of choice have laws about refusing to disclose your identity correctly, it's only in the realm of a ToS violation.

Generally, discussion of piracy in the abstract has been accepted, while explicit reference or links to explicit materials has not.
(For perspective on your quoted rule, keep in mind we can freely discuss the topic of pornography, just not link to or attach or write up detailed examples of it; likewise, sexualized content attachments have been given a free pass, so long as they're not outright explicit. Piracy discussion and reference has traditionally been given a similar level of grace.)

Since this topic lists piracy as an alternative option among several others, in a topic not directly related to piracy, inherently it should fall under acceptably abstract discussion. However, the direct references to specific sites and cracking groups seem to be go over what's allowable, as there it's a direct reference to specific piracy elements and indirect encouragement to utilize them, rather than still falling under abstract mechanical details.

As you say, though- it's all down to what staff considers it as.

Really, the only line that has any constructive need to retain any sort of reference to piracy is "4", which can just be changed to something like "If you end up getting the game from a less-than-legitimate source, make sure not to apply any included crack content", which completely fulfills the expectations of what's acceptable and what isn't, while conveying the relevant constructive point. The rest of the mentions all seem unnecessary for the point being made- and thus, presumably, are inappropriate.

(Given the simplicity of changing the presentation, closing the thread feels entirely unnecessary- though I personally do feel it's more suitably kept within its relevant thread, given its niche topic of reference.)

I believe it is legal to download a copy of the game if you already own said game. So this would not be piracy because people here own the game on Uplay.

A lot of people believe in a lot of things.
(From my poor understanding) It depends honestly on what country you are. Some say "nope, it is still piracy", others are just silent about it.

Not punishing piracy doesn't mean that piracy stops being piracy.

If the people own a copy of the chinese version they don't automatically own the english version.

It's the same game though. Does a language file make it a totally different game?

Yes. You have a licence for the chinese product. Not the english one. Same goes for all software.

It's not piracy because he isn't using any crack

It's still piracy. Whilst local laws may allow creation of a backup that doesn't allow for just downloading someone else's "backup".

I'm not surprised this works as I've used similar methods to "patch" languages before. For example, the Russian/RHCP versions of Duke Nukem Forever and Borderlands 2 which are separate games to the Global versions don't include English language options. So I downloaded the Global versions as well and copied the relevant files over the Russian installation. For Borderlands 2 it only required certain files but for Duke Nukem Forever I ended up just copying the entire installation over.

Thanks but I'll pass. It does not matter if one legally own the content, this is in fact downloading a pirated content through a medium often associated with piracy, and if it's a torrent then one is also distributing the pirated content to other pirates.

This means there's an easier way to do this, that doesnt require installing the game completely

I'm genuinely surprised this thread hasn't been deleted yet. The mods are fine with piracy, but the crime of too many links is a step too far.

Installed off of the Assassin's Creed II DVD from my Assassin's Creed Ultimate Collection which includes a DVD for both AC1 & AC2.
This did the trick. However, in this case, if I need to install from my DVD to get the English to work, the digital copy on UPlay will be of
minimal added value (apart from automatic updates, et al). It is now installed on my PC, but if I log in from another PC, will it retain the
English version if I install it fresh on that system? (I bet not.) Oh well, all 'FREE' games may not be worth it, even if the game is good.

You might as well buy the game if you have to resort to downloading the game from a pirate site as a "solution" to play it in english. Not worth the hassle.
