So how much is it?
Easily over 2000, but only if you include gifts. According to the purchase history, I've spent 6 times as much on gifts than on games for myself. I'd like to say it's money well spent, but maybe that's going too far. I'd say it's money I enjoyed spending, in any case.

Impossible for me to know.
I started using Steam in early 2009, and it pretty much became my singular gaming platform (with a few exceptions), since I had sold all my console stuff (I had an insane Dreamcast collection).
With sales and bundles, I don't think I've ever paid full-price for a game--and those bundles have DEEP discounts, sometimes. However, I have bought extra bundles, and gifts for others, so I don't know how those factor in to how much I've spent/saved.
Between gifts from friends, SG wins, and free games from IG, HB, gleam, etc, many (though not a large percentage) of the games/DLCs in my library I've spent no money on. My first Steam game, Portal, was even a gift!
What further complicates things is I used to play a specific F2P game, and spent a stupid amount of money on it (really wish I hadn't spent any).
According to SteamDB, here's the estimated value of my account (I used Google to convert to Euros):
$36023 (30508.58€)
Current account value
$10203 (8641.12€)
Total cost with sales
If you just use the 'sales' estimate, that's approximately $1133.67 (960.13€) per year.
I have a problem.

Between $1000 - 1500 on Steam and then probably another $1000 at least on other sites. Spent a lot more on retail games before I went digital.

On my Steam account, less than $20.
About 3 years of WoW with 2 expansions, so about $700 there.
Maybe $300-500 on other games over the years for PC
Maybe $100-200 on games for Xbox 360
Spent much more than that just on PCs over the years, but lets say I needed them for school... That sounds plausible.
I spent more than that on my Magic: The Gathering addiction back in the day, haha. Now I am sad, all those cards and no one to play with :(

I noticed that I've been buying more and more games recently and I wondered how much money have I spent since I created my Steam account in 2014. It turned out that it's been quite a lot, considering that I'm a student with no stable income living in a country where the average monthly salary is 3 times lower than in the USA.
If my math is correct, I've spent around 190€ for 341 games (180€ for 219 games if you don't want to count the damn BundleStars Dollar bundles), with the most expensive one being Cities: Skylines for 27,99€ followed by Borderlands 2 for 11,24€. Almost half of it, over 80€, was spent this year.
Now as you can see, my philosophy seems to be "if it costs more than 5€, I'm not buying it". I really have no interest in buying 60€ AAA games when I can have tons of wonderful small games all for the same price. I'm sure there are people who spend much more on video games but for me, this is quite a high number, although I have no regrets. After all, video games are the only thing that makes me happy and is stopping me from ending it all :'')
I didn't count any games I bought before 2014 and my usage of digital distribution such as my The Sims collection that must've cost me hundreds of euros. Ouch
