I have it and it's indeed awesome!
Also, add Spelunky, Un-Epic to that list

roguelike or rougelike?
is that some kind of french gaming contest? cuz I want in :P
sounds bloody interesting!
Also, since Risk of Rain is on there, why not Terraria? (I thought it's a rippoff of Terraria, and no, I have not played Risk of Rain, just read description and saw screenshots!)

It's really nothing like terraria. It's much more like binding of Issac meets Diablo as a 2d platformer.

Friend, don't apologize, please! I'm fond with canadians they sure are alright. I also thought it was an australian typo :)
PS. I'm not native so I may have commited grammar errors now and then so don't worry!

Spelunky man, Spelunky. I can guarantee it is harder than FTL and BOI, but you'll keep coming back for more anyway.
Rogue Legacy is also great, I'd def recommend it. Don't Starve has some randomization and you'll probably die a lot, but its a stretch to even call it a roguelike-lite, which is what most of these are.
Dungeons of Dredmor is fantastic too, a true roguelike, but accessible for newbies. If you want to delve in though, you can always play the webtiles version of the seminal roguelike, Dungeon Crawl: Stone Soup.

random items, random world generations, you lose your loot when you die and so on

Its not, never said it was. Its an action roguelike-lite-lite maybe, if you feel like being super generous with the definition. I was just trying to give a recommendation of games that the OP might like if he liked BoI and FTL, which are in the same boat of just having a few mechanics inspired by roguelikes in the game. Plus he was only asking for similar games, not true 100% roguelikes. Same thing with Rogue Legacy, very much definitely not a real roguelike, or even roguelike-lite (which is the term I like to use for these games since roguelike fans get peeved over calling anything even remotely derivative a roguelike)
If he wants to play a real roguelike then Dungeons of Dredmor and/or Dungeon Crawl: Stone Soup are the best options.

DoomRL. It's the famous grand-daddy of the FPS, turned into a rogue-like. Different character classes, careful management of inventory and armor, all the powerups you remember from the original, most of the same sounds... it's great. Best of all, it's free to download. Just google for it. I had a lot of fun with it.

Nuclear Throne.
I can't believe I'm the first to say this here. You won't be disappointed. The best roguelike to date, and it's in early access on Steam right now, still under development. It's a solid game as is, and will be getting much better with time.
Plus it has controller support, that's a huge bonus for me. It has different characters to choose from, each with their own special abilities. Different world types, with their own boss types. Can't stress enough how much you won't be disappointed. I've already put 30 hours into it, I play it every day. This game always has me saying, "one more round" and then I play ten more instead. No regrets, best purchase I've made on Steam in a long time.
Also a fan of Binding of Isaac, FTL and Spelunky. They don't compare to the likes of Nuclear Throne though. 10/10 solid game.
EDIT to add Binding of Isaac to favs list. Nuclear Throne is a lot like BOI. But better. :)

ADOM and DOOM are epic. Highly recomended. Elona+ is fun.
Check out the MUDs if you want cool rogue mmo, the cyberpunk ones are good.
Dwarf Fortress has an adventurer mode if you don't ant to build a fortress ( or want to explore the one you built and that fell down to a zombie unicorn invasion )

I loved the original Elona, nice to see it's still alive in a new form. :)

In recent years the definition of a roguelike has got really broad compared to earlier. FTL and BoI are considered roguelikes by the general RL community, as are many other games that are not necessarily turn based or top-down. There is a good episode of Roguelike Radio podcast dealing with the issue of what is a roguelike. I recommend you check it out.

The Pit. It's so obnoxiously luck based that it's kind of funny.

There aren't many roguelikes on Steam, most are roguelike-like (such as FTL and BOI and most of the titles mentioned in this thread).
I will recommend Dungeons of Dredmor.
And just to broaden the list, everyone forgot to mention the roguelike Weird Worlds: Return to Infinite Space and the roguelike-like Eldritch.
PS: Gnomoria, Unepic and Project Zomboid are not roguelike or even roguelike-like

Don't Starve is the only thing that really comes to mind.

So after playing BOI and FTL a fair bit and loving them both,(need to get more randomization in my diet) I decided that trying similar games would be fun. I like how every time you play it's always different as the levels are randomized, and the mechanic of permanent death makes the game feel much more real. Now that I think about it, it is kinda like real life. Maybe I should play real life more often. Anyways, please recommend me similar games, I really appreciate your opinions. Also, why not tell why you enjoy them as well?
