Oh wow, despite playing all the point-n-clickers I could get my hands on at the time, somehow I missed this one. AND it has Christopher Lloyd & Ben Stein? I'm in, thanks :)

Oh wow. The corpse of Interplay still has some quality life in it after all.

This is what confuses me about this whole thing. They are on the verge of collapse and are actively trying to find a buyer for their entire ip catalogue. Why release this game on Steam now?

If I had to offer a theory, it's to remind potential buyers of the IPs that this actually exists. As it's quite the hidden gem and all.

Well it is on GoG and has been sold there for quite sometime (I own a copy of the game there myself). They actually have more games being sold on that platform and for cheaper (since they do 90% off sales), yet their steam catalogue is much smaller, shittier and the best discounts they get is ~50%.

I've heard that it costs publishers X$ to upload a game onto Steam, but I would have figured the pay off would have been worth it. Hell, I don't know what is stopping them from giving the same discounts on GoG to the peeps on Steam.

Honestly, I don't think Interplay is going to find a buyer outside of THQNordic and I only pick them since they are buying every obscure ip under the sun atm. Doesn't help that Interplay wants to bundle their entire catalogue when only Earthworm Jim, MDK, the Star Trek games and Toonstruck are the only decent games they own.

Gad damn I hope the Discworld games turn up one of these days.

That one might be a bit tricky. The name Discworld and the world itself is owned by the estate of Terry Pratchett. The game however, looks like it is owned by Sony (under the studio known as Psygnosis), unless the dev, Perfect Entertainment, retained the rights. Not sure since they sues Psygnosis for lack of payment and then ended up closing shortly after.

If Sony owns the game, it will most likely never see the light of day. Sony isn't pc friendly and I doubt they would pay more than free to start selling the game again. However, if the dev owned the rights to the game, then there might be a chance depending on who owns the ip now (I couldn't figure out what happened to their assets when they closed). However, there is the matter of the game's source code, and if it is still even possible to bring it back now.

If it does, the owners will then have to broker a deal with Pratchett's estate which is a big unknown. One example of a situation like this are the old Agatha Christie games, which are now owned by THQNordic but they can't sell them since the estate of Agatha Christie won't allow it.

That is not a reason to lose hope since System Shock 2 happened, which was in copyright hell for the longest time, but don't get your hopes up.

Yes indeed. It's one of those things that would probably require someone with weight to wrangle with multiple parties, so I'm not overly optimistic - certainly not for the near future.
Having said that, Discworld Noir was a GT Interactive title, which means that it's presumably owned by Atari. Don't know whether that makes any fundamental difference.

I wouldn't get my hopes up with Atari. They were bought out a few years ago and the new owners are making crap with old ip names slapped onto it so they can make a quick buck. They won't put the money up to bring old games back to life considering the new guys are losing money atm.

The Atari of today is worse than the fuckers who made E.T.

But the guy who made E.T. also made Yars' Revenge, the best game on the 2600 (Which made fun of the CEO of Atari, Ray Kassar). So Howard Scott Warshaw gets a pass, but not Tod Frye who made the Pac-Man port on the 2600 or the head of Atari who thought 12 million Pac-Man games will help drive sales on the the 2600.

FMV Glory at its finest. Another reason to assemble the crew, get drunk and enjoy a 90's gem :D.

And the weirdest thing is that I'm not buying it (yet) being a bit broke after Silence release. Anyway, haven't played this one for more than 10 years, and that's a good thing - I'm going to enjoy it like the first time))

It's a nice game for adults too, definitely not a kids game.
