What can I expect as this will be my first. Also, I'm planning on getting at least Oblivion GOTY Deluxe, Morrowind GOTY, Fallout 3 GOTY, and Fallout NV Ultimate. How much do you estimate that would all cost?

$21.25 give or take a few cents. At 75% off it'll be $6.25, $5, $5, $5.

Wait a minute, when is this Steam Sale on? Because I'm in the UK and there is no sale for any Bethesda games right now! :/

It hasn't happened yet. I don't believe it has even been confirmed. But Steam normally has a big summer sale around June or July, so people are speculating and anticipating.

Broad discounts on most of the Steam catalog throughout the whole sale, with larger daily discounts on a smaller selection of games each day. They've also been doing "flash sales" during the last few major sales that are like the daily deals, except even shorter (8-12 hours, I think?). There's sometimes some sort of metagame accompanying it, collecting themed achievements in games for prizes and whatnot, but that's not always the case.

As far as those games, there's a pretty good chance they'll all get 75% off sales as they have previously, so like $20 total depending on your price region. Then again, the Fallout games haven't been on sale at all on Steam in a long time, so who knows. Worth noting that there's another sale currently going on that contains all of them, if you're impatient and willing to pay a little bit more: http://www.getloadedgo.com/.

:)

One suggestion as a first timer: unless you're desperate to start a game immediately, don't buy it right at the start of the sale. Something that's 50% off throughout the sale may well get a 66% or 75% daily deal at some point along the way. General rule of thumb is not to buy anything that's not a daily deal (or flash deal) until the last day.

Christmas sale seemed a bit restrained. The various "limited time" deals were repeated multiple times through the sale. Over all, it felt like a repeat of the Thanksgiving sale that happened only a month before. It didn't feel a classic "Big Two" (Christmas and Summer) Steam event.

I wonder if Valve might be dialing back their biggest sales, now that other online stores offer their own major deals that rival and at times surpass Steam. If so, people might find the Summer sale doesn't meet their expectations of big deals.

Just to be clear....youre really complaining about really great sales because some of them repeated?

you are either really greedy or really entitled.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yay, the classic comment...

Baines isn't "greedy" or "entitled" in the slightest. The winter sale was disappointing because it hasn't lived up to expectations of previous sales. Instead of having new, fresh deals daily, it basically had a bunch of games that they just discounted over and over again. Where's the fun in that?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I don't think that was the point Baines was trying to get across. The last X-mas Sale was lack luster compared to the former larger holiday sales (especially Christmas sales), due to, like he said, many "limited time" deals were repeated. This might be due to a lack of games which Valve got the green-light to set large discounts, or it might just be because they were trying out a new concept.

Don't be too quick to call people out, when actually they are being right about something. If anything, it makes you stand out as a bit of a douche (not saying that you are, but you are not really showing your best side).

Most people wanted Season Sales because of Achievements and meta-game along many nice price drops. After Winter Multiple-Account Fiasco from 2011 Steam Sales become just big sales. And other shops also started doing big sales, so Steam Sales lost their "magic".
People remember how fun earlier Sales were. And now there's nothing that makes them different than others.

I'm sure there are tons of people who wouldn't really mind lack of Sale as long as Steam would bring back treasure-hunt back.

The news update about trading cards leaving beta makes me wonder if they might try some kind of card-related event for the summer sale. Trading Cards are leaving beta June 26th, and the news posting said "Making trading cards available to all Steam users is a step towards an event we think everyone can be excited about..."

Further, the June 26 date seems like it was chosen for reasons outside the trading card program itself. "There are a few things we have talked about previously that we really wanted to get to, that have now been pushed till post release - Trade Offers, and the Card Binder." Valve doesn't really have a reason to rush trading cards coming out of beta, unless they have a reason external to the program to have them available to all by the middle of next week.

Of course that is all just speculation on my part, but I cannot help but think that Valve has noticed how people respond to events during sales, and the lack thereof.

I'm not complaining at all. I'm just saying that Steam's future sales might be more restrained that people have grown to expect.

For the Christmas sale, there were people who believed Valve would keep trying to outdo the other online stores, and outdo its own Thanksgiving sale. Valve didn't, really. That in itself isn't a bad thing. (One could argue that Valve had already pushed online discounts further than they should have.)

Although it was a bit annoying how they overplayed the various limited time deals, with the same games popping up over and over. Stuff like the voter's choice didn't matter, not when the games, chosen and unchosen alike, would also show up again as both flash and daily deals. And it did dampen people's enthusiasm to see the same games show up in each "special sale" category.

I got Terraria for $2.50 during last year's Summer Sale, so I would expect it to be the same this year.

Permalink

Protip: Everything that gets a sale price for the duration, do not buy until the last day. Along the way, there is a high chance they will have an even higher daily deal.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

That only goes for the "daily sales", correct?
Don't quote me on this, but I believe some of (if not all) the limited time sales are not repeated on the last day for as good of a deal as during the time period?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Flash sales and daily sales are a-ok. If the game you want gets a random 30-50% discount and is not shown in the main sales lists, chances are it may get a better deal later on.

Nothing. Just usual deals only all of them at the same time. Usually there are better deals for steam games on amazon. Steam like to keep the price higher even on summer/winter sales.
