If I'm understanding VAC correctly, it's job is to detect and stop cheaters within games, not to protect people's accounts.

That's correct. Well, partly. It's job is to protect other users from cheaters online. You can still cheat yourself, if it affects nobody. VAC doesn't always detect this properly as seen with my VAC.

Bump. If it's any conciliation, I think VAC bans should disappear from displaying after a certain period of time (But still kept hidden in records in case of repeat offences) and GAs should have a "Not been Banned in the last X months/years" rather than a strict no VAC bans.
