items that were free give you no value... for example, "Spellweaver - Duke's Zombies Deck"

there are a lot of freebies in your recent giveaways

Pretty sure all the Spellweaver codes thus far have been for in-game redemption, rather than given away as Steam codes. That'd make the Steam DLC still unbundled and, further, would make it so that any giveaways for the DLC which instead gave the in-game code would potentially result in "Gifting Non-Steam Redeemable Games" suspensions for the GA creator, "Not Activating Won Gifts" suspensions for the winners involved, and deletions of the giveaways in question.

There are certain assumptions we can make on the matter, but it's something we have to leave to the expectation that staff is paying a close mind to such things. Perhaps it'd actually be better to not make exceptions for codes being non-Steam, to limit such awkwardness and hassles for staff. Best circumstance, of course, would be if the Steam API properly sent out data on DLC ownership.

Why are you replying to me? I don't need your bogus responses.
I was explaining to the OP why he lost CV, using one of the known giveaways as an example - if you take note of the no-value of the said DLC, and then realise that there was a giveaway for it on Alienware Arena, you wouldn't be arguing with me.

there was a giveaway for it on Alienware Arena

Which were, as Sooth explained: in-game codes, not steam keys.

I feel as though you don't quite understand how forums- and perhaps even conversations in general- are expected to work. Responses are a natural expectation of both conversations and this kind of conversation-style forum. All the more so when the responses are intended to be constructive and collaborative, and when you create a post that encourages others to expand or expound upon what you've said.

If you don't want replies, it is an option to just include that (politely, else you'll encourage conflict) in your initial posts. Those of us on the site capable of respectful conversation will do our best to acknowledge your preferences where there's not special cause to do otherwise. Alternatively, you can avoid most replies of the sort we gave just by doing additional research yourself and presenting that research as part of your initial posts, thus avoiding any uncertanties or need for further clarifications that would encourage these kind of replies.

Though I suppose belligerently snapping at each an every repondant may eventually produce a similar effect to asking politely, but it does seem to be rather the self-destructive alternative.

Anyway, I'll be obliging your wishes after this post. :)

Just like you talking down to me - it's just the same - it's not necessarily any more polite.

It was only an example giveaway that you guys have taken way out of context. Had I used any other of the freebies, you guys wouldn't have "needed" to point out I was wrong. You just need to stop the need to reply to every post someone puts up, you're chronic for confronting people on SG.

If I was talking down to you, you'd be well aware of the fact.
For one thing, I wouldn't be wasting my time and energy on elaborating anything.

Thanks for the support. :)

Actually, Mayanaise is correct in that I forgot to check against SG's free list. That has the DLC being added to the list as of December 2018, which helped me find the actual Steam key giveaway for the game [It's on gamezito, and I've confirmed it still works, but it requires completion of a good handful of tasks and the linking of several outside accounts, so I wouldn't especially recommend it (all the more so seeing as there's no real point to it, given that in-game codes are still available on Alienware without any hassle at all).]
The DLC giveaways the OP put up were all put up after that date, so they can actually be presumed to be from that particular giveaway.
Given that the DLC is already listed as free on SG prior to that date, I'm not sure why SGT is indicating that the DLCs are still giving unbundled value (though, in retrospect, the OP'd be level 2 if the DLCs were still giving that value on SG, so it's clear the issue is, in fact, with SGT). Perhaps SGT only syncs with SG once every 24 hours, and the OP noticed the change as soon as it occurred?

In short, regardless of how very uncomfortable they're trying to make it to acknowledge such, Mayanaise was actually completely correct, even if it does seem to have somewhat been on accident.

Yeah, that DLC was given away all over town. I picked a couple of extras just because it was given full value in here.
I didn't knoew the mechanics so I didn't know it was gunna go away.
But I was on level two foe one month. I think I won at least one level two giveaway.
Hey! That makes it all worth it. Not all that much was lost

1) You give a lot of trash.
2) Some of this trash become very cheap or free.
3) You lose contributor value, based on real price of games you gave, because it become very cheap or free.
4) You lose your level, based on contributor value.
5) ...
6) PROFIT!!!

SUMM: if you want a level, don't give away trash. If you want to give away trash - don't want a level.

if you give away a game that was from a mass giveaway, it will be changed to a no value game and that sometimes happens after some hours because mods don't always notice right away.
it can also happen that games got a base price change on Steam and if that goes down, the CV will go down with it and if the game is removed from Steam so no base price, you lose all CV for it (please correct me if I am wrong on that last point)

There's a sitewide RNG that randomly picks people to punish. Sadly it picked you...everyone else breathes a quiet sigh of relief.

The real issue is that staff is leaving free games up at full CV value for months on end.
That's resulting in various issues.

Oh I see! So whenever games go into bundle or lower the price the CV goes down.
I thought it would just stay there.
So all CV tends to 0 in the same way entropy tends to a maximun

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

No.

If you give away a game before it is in a bundle/given away for free/discounted more than 95% you will keep full CV.
Only if you give away a game after the bundle/... your CV will be reduced/set to 0.

Keep in mind that CV is based on the current price in the US Steam store.
If you giveaway a AAA ($60) game when it's new, you will gain 60 CV. If the game is only $20 after 2 years, your CV will be 20 too.
Edit: This works also in the other direction. You give away a $20 game, which price is increased to $30 later, you will gain CV.

Additionally to what Oppenhaimer already pointed out it is important to know that the game's site status is managed by one person only. We call him "the bundler". So it is possible that a game you obtained for free and gave away gave you full CV at first until "the bundler" got around to adding it to the "free games" list, which is always retroacively to the point when the games was given for free (same works for bundling btw).
So if you give away something before the day it was bundled or given for free, you will always receive its full CV for all eternity, and this CV will always be tied to the game's price on Steam.

I don't think that information is up to date. Take a look when "the bundler" was last online.

Edit: But your point that it might take some time as it is done manually is still valid.

Let's pretend that every single thing you gave away to date was a freebie from one mass giveaway or another. You might get full or part CV for these at the time of giveaway. But, you are pretty much guaranteed to end up with 0 CV eventually once the bundle people here on SG are caught up.

Just assume that if you get something for free in a mass giveaway that you'll soon have 0 CV for it if you give it away here.

Here's a tool to help see where your CV comes from

I see that Spellweaver - Duke's Zombies Deck is still listed as full value on SGTools but as no-value here. Presumably this means that this particular DLC had been given away for free at some point and very recently added to the no-value list with a retroactive date as some time before your giveaways.

Comment has been collapsed.

You lose lvl because your CV went down.
CV goes down, for two reason:

  1. Reduced CV status updates backwards to the date of the reason of reduced CV state. So if you find a free code source, and SG still shows it as full CV, your CV will go down when they catch up.
  2. Reduced price of games. CV is based on the standard price of the game, so if the base price goes down (as time pass), the CV will go down.
