****ing awful DRM and client. I can't even play my copy of Far Cry: Blood Dragon, it insists I'm offline no matter what. I've stuck to buying their games on PS3 since then.
Shame Child of Light has glitches caused by them trying to implement DRM on PS3, so I need to sign out of PSN to play it without stuttering and music dropping out. But at least I can go offline, can't even play your games without a connection on PC.
Doesn't help that pretty much any other company with a client isn't as crap. Even for all the hate EA get from people here, people will defend the Origin client before they would the UPlay client.

uplay may be the worst client of the big three, but i have to say i don't have any problems with it. runs absolutely fine for me. some statistics would be interesting about how many people actually have issues with it.

well, steam customer service improved a lot in the last few days. ^^

true, but at least it is a step in the right direction.

Ye but EA also doesn't refund all games while steam now does it, EA only refunds games published by “Electronic Arts” or participating third party titles designated as Great Game Guarantee eligible.
Plus steam system is not fully automated system, they also have people to review refunds.
They need to improve their customer support, EA has best support system but Steam refund system is really good now, even better than EA refund system.
Comment has been collapsed.
Maybe it's different for people not in the UK but I can ask for refunds for any EA product and participating third party I buy from them. Which implies that it's up to the third party whether or not they offer refunds, not EA. Most people aren't going to be buying third party games from Origin anyway.
They also give you 24hours to try rather than just 2hours. That's pretty nice.

I'll agree there. I don't stubbornly hate EA, I judge them on each thing. They have some good, some bad.

As a store it is <censored> expensive, especially for non-Muricans. Steam's own sales have deteriorated a lot in the past 2-3 years, but Origin's prices are still atrocious.
As a community platform the Steam community hub is still a ton superior to the EA forums. Even if you don't want to use the forums… the guides, sometimes the workshop, the somewhat more streamlined announcements, the own community groups and the media sharing capabilities are still good for people who want to have some community experience centered around a game.
Plus it doesn't try to force itself on you like Raptr or Playfire. That is always nice.
I'm not saying the Steam Community is the greatest gaming community thing ever (faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar from it), but it is still a working thing and an adequate one.
Although about a thousand or so more global moderators in the games' forums would be nice. The amount of stupid compared to the user-controlled and moderated user group forums is astounding sometimes.
Comment has been collapsed.
Pretty sure the majority of regional pricing is to do with taxes in those countries. I remember some bundle site saying they had to bump up their prices because of that. It's definitely not just an origin thing.
The forums are okay but yes, they always have some dipshit saying "hurrduur why's this crap on steam" for anything other than <generic AAA game> or the fact it seems like every other community hub has near-pornographic images or some anime turds at the top of it, often of which have nothing to do with the game. Forums are moderated by devs and have censored topics in their little part of the forums in the past. A community is no better than the people in it. Even the guides section gets ruined by people posted unrelated topics, you're better off googling if you really need help with a game, astats is really good source for achievement specific stuff.
As for the workshop, it's terrible. If you're using it for a lot of modding you are going to have a bad time. There are much more efficient modding services out there and even manually installing mods is better.
Steam has a lot to offer but it's pretty "meh" the whole way through.
(Since when did playfire or raptr force itself on anyone? They're both optional services that reward you for using them. I haven't used raptr in years and playfire just died anyway.)
Comment has been collapsed.
Raptr is not a bloatware for AMD and you cannot opt to NOT install it, just to remove it after that.
Playfire is doing some really boring ad campaigns and if you ever use GMG, they pretty much shove themselves in your face.
But at least they don't use thousands of spambots on every site like G2A does. That's a plus I guess.
Comment has been collapsed.
Interesting to know that about AMD.
Playfire gave away free stuff, now that they've stopped some people seem to hate. Honestly they've never bothered me. They still do giveaways though. As for shoving into your face, I went to their homepage and there's barely any reference to playfire besides one tiny little ad at the bottom of the page. :s

The problem with Ubisoft is that they've had a long, sordid history (much like EA) of doing absurd consumer-harming things like elaborate DRMs that interfere with the games they make, in their attempts to thwart piracy. They've pushed out products well ahead of time, insisting on catastrophically buggy releases and giving minimal support once their games are released. This paired with the DLC-heavy attitude they (and many other publishers) have lately has resulted in a ton of negative PR for Ubisoft. And heck, just a couple of months ago, I bought a game from them that simply does not run at all, despite me meeting the minimum specs. Two months of tech support hadn't solved the issue.
TL, DR: Ubisoft has a long, sordid history of pissing on their customer base in an attempt to squeeze blood from rocks and and in the process has garnered a lot of hostility from, well, their potential consumers.
That being said, I do -want- to like Ubisoft. They've got some interesting games and developers under their wing. I just wish they'd ease up on the capitalism enough so that their consumer base (and myself) could feel a bit of love. Instead of all the gouging. :(

It wasn't release day. It was several years after the game's release. It's a bug that has apparently just never been fixed. It's really heartbreaking.
Comment has been collapsed.
Because their DRM is terrible, and often prevents people from playing games that they bought. So if Ubisoft is in the business of f*cking over legitimate customers, they can shove any sort of goodwill or positive comments up their collective corporate asses.
Comment has been collapsed.
I consider some of their games interesting and would like to play them. Because of the dubious decision to use extra DRM, I have not bought any of their recent titles. This extends into gifting so I will not buy them even for others. Shame as Fary Cry 3+ and some of the Assasins Creed games look nice.

I've never had any problems playing Uplay games. The only thing I dislike is that with their client, if you try to activate too many keys (like if someone wants you to guess a missing letter/number) then it will lock you out of your account AND games for 1 hour. Fortunately AC2 had autosaves since it shut me out of it. :P

I play Ubi. both Homm6 and Anno2070. their client is crap. had to reinstall it twice to make it work. it shouldn't be like that.
i made it works flawlessly in the end, but that is not always the case
games are good, some are very very good. but you want to play them.

which recent ubisoft games are limited to 30fps? ac unity, far cry 4, trials fusion, the crew, dragon age inquisition - all support 60fps.
Comment has been collapsed.
I meant on things like this when they locked Unity on ps and xbox1 to 30 fps, when dev says something like this it just makes me mad, every now and then they say something stupid and this is just one of many stupid things they said....
https://www.reddit.com/r/Games/comments/2iozvb/viva_la_resoluci%C3%B3n_assassins_creed_dev_thinks/
He says "Ubisoft for a long time we wanted to push 60 fps. I don't think it was a good idea because you don't gain that much from 60 fps and it doesn't look like the real thing. It's a bit like The Hobbit movie, it looked really weird"
"30 was our goal, it feels more cinematic. 60 is really good for a shooter, action adventure not so much. It actually feels better for people when it's at that 30fps. It also lets us push the limits of everything to the maximum. "
Only thing he didn't lied is that it lets them push console to maximum, everythng else he lied, and when I hear something like this from dev, doesn't matter if he talks about console or pc it just makes me mad...
Comment has been collapsed.
yeah, i know this statement, of course. typical pr bullshit. i dont even care as long as the games run at 60fps (which they all do on pc).
Comment has been collapsed.
I don't have any complaints about their DRM, but their games are usually plagued with bugs, bad optimization and technical issues. I only buy games from them because they own the M&M franchise (which they're also ruining since Heroes of M&M 6).
Comment has been collapsed.
Not talking about bad things leads to ignoring them, which leads to them growing.
"Noo it's not that bad, we get Half Life 2 in return" and now you got DRM shit all over the place.
"You don't have to buy horse armor" now half the game is DLC.
Their games aren't half as bad as they themselves are and not talking about it will not improve that.

Pretty sure Assassin's Creed II is considered the best of the series. So yeah it probably is that great.
Doesn't mean the others aren't lacklustre bugfests. :( They pump a new one out every year so quality doesn't seem like top of the agenda.
If a company advertises one product and gives you another you have every right to complain about it. Saying "no one said you have to buy it" is really dumb. Of course you didn't have to buy it.
Ubisoft itself hasn't been particularly nice. Forcing DRM that locks people out of their games and claiming things like 95% of PC gamers playing their games are pirated copies. There was that thing about downgrading graphics on PC copies of Watchdogs that someone managed to unlock a day after release. If a company shits on it's customers, the customers are not going to like them and Ubisoft seems to have a habit of shitting on it's PC customers.
So good things about Ubisoft?
I loved Rayman Origins & Rayman Legends. Great music, great aesthetics.
Valiant Hearts was also pretty nice.
Far Cry 3 was alright, pretty but kinda dull in the gameplay after a while.
My brother said that Assassin's Creed IV is pretty good, he played on xbox360 though and I definitely remember those posts about the bugs.
These are good things right?

They made a big mistake with Watch Dogs. The game was expected to be a GTA:V contender and ended up being sub par to GTA:IV in every single aspect. Buggy, broken, and basic. On top of this Ubisoft was charging a premium price and boasting E3 graphics that were very different from the release version. They even shamelessly copied animations from the Assassin's Creed games into Watch Dogs. That just makes me wonder how much else they copied.
Basically Ubisoft are inconsistant with the quality of games they produce. Customers are charged a full retail price and don't know if what they're getting is going to be worth the money. AC: Unity and Watch Dogs certainly weren't worth it for most people, but Far Cry 3 and AC: Rogue were IMO.

you can't go kiss them just because they made first story arc of AC great. Look at their other Games. Their support. No one just wakes up in the morning & says today i'm going to say shit about Ubi. they have terrible support. Their recent games & decisions..there are many reasons.

I like Assassin's Creed, I like Far Cry, I like Rayman, I like Driver: San Fransisco, I like HAWX (well, at least HAWX 2), and I was fucking hyped like real shit for The Crew and it is awesome. Also, the small games are nice ideas, too.
I never understood the Ubi-hate. Ubisoft is my favourite publisher (no irony).

Because their platform/DRM is pure garbage and they force people to use it if they want to play their games. I know some here had no issues with it but it literally broke some games for me. Last time i tried to play HoMM 6 i had to reinstall and patch it 3-4 times before it finally worked, their piece of shit patcher would corrupt the patch download every time.
Oh and i also hate them for what they've turned the Heroes of Might and Magic franchise into...

Some people will have legitimate issues with them. Personally I had to pirate a few of my games as they wouldn't download through Uplay. But for the most part it's just cool to be a bandwagon bitch.

people love to jump on bandwagons + bashing anything that ISN'T whatever particular thing they love (xbox vs ps, pc vs consoles, steam vs anything that isnt steam, etc)..
personally i like ubisoft... they make some fantastic games... some really creative and amazing games like child of light and blood dragon... and if i stack up the number of problems and grief that steam has given me, with the amount uplay has given me, and honestly they're about the same... ubisoft far and away has better support than steam does.
Comment has been collapsed.
I get the feeling that all the hate is mostly because of Ubisoft's utter disregard for their customers and blatant greed. The early AC games were pretty decent, so were early Splinter Cell games. The later games of the two series, though... I'm not so sure about their quality.
Comment has been collapsed.
You know, people should stop bitching about this UPlay thing. Yes, the client used to be awful, but they've since fixed a lot of the major issues. Also, most of the problems that arise now are because people are stupid enough to buy Ubi games on Steam and run them with two clients. I have not experienced a single problem with UPlay in over a year. Because I'm not an idiot and almost all of my Ubi games are exclusive to my UPlay library. Stop buying Ubisoft games on Steam and you'll be a lot happier.

I've been seeing a lot of crap around about Syndicate. Everyone hates on the how Ubisoft has its own DRM and talks about how bad Unity was. However, I recently picked up Assassin's Creed II for $5 on sale and it is amazing.
Instead of crapping all over the forums, talk about the good in Ubisoft. If you don't like a game, no one said you have to buy it.
I feel like whenever people talk about games on this and other sites, it's negative.
Thanks for reading :)
And here, have Assassin's Creed: Black Flag

It's actually Pirates of Black Cove, a game that you that you used to be able to get for free at dlh.net
