They both are on sale at the moment and I have them on my wishlist (waiting till I win them here might take me forever ;) ), but I can afford (and play) only one game at the moment. Which do you recommend and why?

I also don't know, if their stories follow up on each other. Is it in any way advisable to play Asylum before playing City or does it just not matter at all, because it's, you know, Batman...?

Oh, and by the way, the sale is over at Nuuvem.com for R$ 9.99. This makes € 3.25 or $ 4.17! For roundabout the next ten hours to go..

City is upgraded Asylum with even better plot(+ very nice sidequest)

Would recommend you the first one tho, you will enjoy the second one a lot more if you start from the beginning.

Let's say Asylum is 9/10 and City 9,5/10. It's a win-win situation.

Asylum
Its more linear and with a better story and atmosphere.
City is ok but you can play that later

There's some reference in city, but you could still play any of them without much issue. Both are great if you ask me.

I prefered Asylum for the overall "story". For ALL the rest City.
If you really must pick only one, I'd say City.

Loved Asylum but just couldn't get into City. I suppose a lot of people find City more appealing because of it's open-world-ness but it's not that appealing to me.

I think atmosphere they created in Asylum just can't be topped by any of the later Batman games.

+1 same here gave up on city and origins because of the open world thing

Completely agree. I just cannot get into City at all (I've tried three times now). Asylum had me hooked from the first minute right to the end though.

I prefer Arkham City for... everything. BUT, the story is a continuation of Asylum. I'd advise playing Asylum first.

Asylum is a great game and City takes everything that's great in Asylum and make it even better and bigger.
Thats why I recommend you to play Asylum first. Otherwise Asylum might feel just like a downgraded City.

Yes, I would advise playing Asylum before City because City is a direct sequel of Asylum.

If I had to pick between the two I would suggest Asylum. The gameplay and story is much more focused than City. I feel the level design makes better use of what there is to do.

I enjoyed Asylum more, I did not even utilize the City in AC.

Wow, thanks for all so many and very informative answers! You guys here are making my decision an easy one. So I'll go with Asylum first for now and keep City for the next Batman fever (reading: Sale). Thanks a bunch, folks!

Arkham City for gameplay, Arkham Asylum for everything else, Arkham Origins is better than Arkham City too tbh,

but play them in their order ;)

Ah dude, you gotta play Asylum first, in order to better understand the story if City. Asylum was excellent, good linear gameplay but City is a bit open world but with upgraded gameplay. Like a guy said before me, Asylum is 9, and City is 8.5, a win-win situation

Personally, I prefer Arkham Asylum over Arkham City :)
In AA, things were neatly linear, so you could focus on the story all the time. AC has more freedom, more things to do, but I found it distracting at times.

I definitely prefer Asylum, City was a bit too all over the place for me-- I much prefer the pacing of the story in Asylum.

I would say city is better but its a sequel to asylum, so I would say to play asylum for now and get city later.

It might be on sale but both used to be n a bundle....but that was a long time ago who knows if you will be able to find any good trades for both

City if you enjoy more open-ended/open-world style gameplay. But all 3 games in the series are rock solid. (Origin is the weakest, but I'd still give that an 8/10.)

I'd prefer Arkham Asylum, the open-world-ness of the City made me dislike the game

I heard most people said they would've liked the city if it didn't feel so faceless and shallow. Like. Open-world just for the sake of having an open world.
