The thing is: I can leave the game running and do another thing, and just check it from time to time. Can't do that with Skyrim

It's not a trap, it's just a promo to attract new players.
You can 100% this game without paying a cent.
And yes, if you buy in-game extras, you progress faster, as with most of this kind of free games.
