Dipal D1 Kickstarter Ending Soon

So there’s a couple companies making some AI character pod devices, including the Dipal D1, whose Kickstarter is still going for a few more hours if anyone is interested (link).

I wanted a GateBox since I first heard of it, but it was way expensive and only actually available in Japan, so I was pumped about this and the Code27, and I couldn’t resist pledging AU$1009, which is about $657 USD, to get the limited edition Night Gold version (but I like the Pearl White as well).
Anyways, now maybe some more people will hear about it, haha.

Not gonna lie, I watched as much of the trailer as I was able to stomach and the thing looks positively annoying to me, I'd probably toss it into a drawer by day two and never use it again. It's like an alarm clock / smartphone hybrid, but bitchy.
But to each their own I guess.

+1 but also to add on. This feels extremely like yet another kickstarter scam. I sincerely doubt this will actually be able to track you around the room, see what you are doing, correctly identify and comment on it all in real-time. All with such a small goal amount, so many red flags in just the first minute of the trailer.

The way I saw the small goal is that they already have everything they need and they are going to make it happen, but are just raising the funds to make enough for all the interested people, which is pretty much what and ideal Kickstarter should be, but I am probably pretty naive.
But yeah, I feel like it’s obviously not actually going to track you around perfectly like the trailer shows, but a lot of the stuff, like comparing ties, reminding you about the weather, even ordering coffee, seems doable.
The Dipal doesn’t seem like it’s had as much of a presence at conventions and such as the Code27, but their timelines and stuff look legit enough. Though yeah, I didn’t look into whether the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba crossover is actually legit, and it seems like something that probably would have been mentioned by Bandai, but there’s plenty of reasons why it may not have been, so idk.

Theoretically you can customize their personalities to be whatever you like, along with changing the model it should be easy enough to change them to whatever you want. But yeah, definitely not something a whole lot of people would be that thrilled with, haha.
The one part I don’t like is the AI speech pattern and problems with that, random pauses in the middle of sentences, emphasis on completely random things, etc.
Their AI is supposedly supposed to be able to learn to talk better, but not sure how much I really believe that. ;P

I had no idea such a thing existed.
My first reaction was 'not my kind of thing', but then i imagined what if/when such a thing were an actual hologram- and heck yeah i would tottally want a hologram on my desk, with some famous character i liked, or switching all the time.

Im impressed by the creativity- we dont have holograms yet, heck we dont have actual real AI yet- but that isnt stopping anyone. I always liked optical illusions too, and from my understanding of it at the right angle it looks like the character is really there inside the tube.
I can already imagine the community (or the devs thenselves) making scripts/animations so characters could bang on it asking to come out or 'trying to' in funny ways...
...but its the kind of thing that even if it were already on the point id want one i couldnt... i cant have such a thing on my desk with the way my cats randomly do crazy chases. Imagine then crashing something expensive and not easy to replace... oh god

The GateBox looks more like a hologram, but it’s still in a tube. But this one you can use custom 3D models and animations “easily” (not really sure how easy it really is, might just be easy for someone with multiple degrees in tech fields, lol) and I imagine people will probably make some animations to make them do that, haha.
