No, hardware is always changing and improving. There's always going to be the next big thing, and if you're always looking to that it's harder to enjoy what you have now. I'm glad they're putting so much support behind this product line, and part of that is planning for the next hardware generation.
What I would really like is a new Valve Index. I still enjoy my Index a lot, but a wireless & lighter headset would be great, as well as a higher resolution.

Do you have the old Index? I want to get it but i am also waiting like well if index 2 is going to be wireless i might as well get that.
Is it still worth it anyway even if it's wired? Because who knows how long it will take before there will be a wireless set.

I don't think it's worth getting one now, they're for sure working on a new one and while the Index is still a great VR headset but a bit too pricey when the next one will probably be both better and cheaper (obviously don't know if that's true but I expect it to be when you don't need base stations) and who knows, maybe PSVR2 will also work for PC...though probably not.

I expect it to be more expensive, since they gonna use better technology, hardware dropping fast in prices was something of the nineties, doesn't happen so quickly anymore (then again everything in life just gets more expensive doesn't it?).
The first playstation VR works with pc although not tried, and someone here said it doesn't look quite as good as pc VR. I am sure someone will figure a way to make the second one work too.

Yeah, I couldn't get a deck but if you asked me the same about my 2080 and I'd answer the same: Hardware is always changing. Well, I'd be more worried if Valve WASN'T planning a new Deck!

Not at all. It's not like Steam Deck 2 is designed and will be shipping next year. Whenever some product is successful, work on its successor/sequel/improved version always starts immediately (unless the company went bankrupt in the process). This is what is called concept phase and it's a long way to the production which is far away from release. I would feel screwed buying Valve Index now and seeing Valve Index 2 pre-orders starting in few months. But Steam Deck just started shipping. I will have a years of fun with it until people will start even start pre-ordering Deck 2. And it's release won't necessarily make OG Deck obsolete, only worse in comparison. But that's how it goes with every hardware.

Not at all! I love my Steam Deck!
It is very good for all this small games I wanted to play and always am bored to.
Also good for more demanding games, though I have not pushed it yet.
For me it is for that 1 hour window that I have, but I do not want to be in front of the pc or find the joystick...

I dont know why you would feel screwed by purchasing a hardware at start of its life cycle.
I mean, if you purchased an Intel i9 12900k and next year 13900k releases, no one would feel screwed over it.
That is kinda the beauty of PC hardware. Unlike consoles which have generations and can stagnate over years, PC evolves very fast. So while a console is almost at parity for a mid range new PC, it gets substantially outclassed 2-3 years after its out. Its your call as a consumer how often you want to upgrade. You dont have to stay with old hardware like switch users have to, unless you chose to.
As for VR, Deckard is old news. We have been aware that its in the works for a while. SadlyitsBradly has some detailed videos about it. Its still too far for an average consumer to pay attention to.
And as someone with multiple VR headsets, I wouldnt invest in an Index. Its too old.
I am personally waiting for Cambria next. I dont like wires. And I really dont like the uncomfortable headsets. My Quest 2 is wireless but horrible comfort level. My G2 is awesome comfort, but the cable is a bit of a downer. For me personally the FOV, Display quality, Sound is good enough that I care more about comfort at this stage than anything else. That and the new controllers that Cambria has which are going to have awesome tracking.

I think it's just improved and better hardware. It needs at least 1-2 years or later. No worries. Steam Deck is a good thing. :)
It works for emulation so perfect as well.^^ So no "screw"

i really hope it has an extra shoulder button like the ones in razer controllers

Old news, we already had that. And I don't see the problem. It already was pretty obvious that they'd create something to compete with Quest 2.
And they also expect other companies to enter the Steam Deck/OS market, so there'd be new and better versions all the time anyway. That's part of being the PC market.

Ahem, yes. Because one of these is a console and the other is a PC.
I'm really not sure what you are trying to achieve here. They've always been openly communicating their plans and ambitions, in creating a new PC hardware segment.
What matters is that Steam Deck is a terrific deal, totally worth the price tag. New hardware later doesn't change that. And if Deck's success results in even more awesome hardware I'll gladly buy it too, in two or three years.

I canceled my preorder when I figured out how weak in performance and battery life while still being big and clunky Steam Deck really is. IMHO, Switch Lite is still the best actual handheld - not counting emulation platforms because there are plenty good options in this category. I hope that they really improve the Deck in next iterations.

"Valve is already planning a follow-up to its hotly anticipated Steam Deck, according to the company's president Gabe Newell.
Speaking to EDGE Magazine, Newell was discussing Valve's surprise when the most expensive version of the Steam Deck proved to "far and away" be the most popular version of the handheld. "That's why we always love to get something out there and ship it. Because we learn a lot from that, and it helps frame our thinking for Deck 2."
This new version of the Steam Deck will likely be a more powerful version of the device, reflecting what Valve believes its customers are saying in purchasing the higher-end deck. "They're basically saying 'We would like an even more expensive version of this' in terms of horsepower capabilities or whatever," Newell said.
Indeed, it appears Valve already has a long future planned for the Steam Deck, with Newell envisioning it as a "permanent addition" to PC gaming. "The second iterations are going to be more about: What are the capabilities that mobile gives us, above and beyond what you would get in a traditional desktop or laptop?"
What's interesting about this is that Valve's vision for the Steam Deck seemingly ties into its ongoing pursuit of VR gaming, with Newell stating that the Steam Deck represents "battery-capable, high-performance horsepower that eventually you could use in VR applications as well".
It's true that one of the main barriers to making VR gaming accessible is the physically inconvenient nature of the hardware, which is why Facebook/Meta's Quest headsets are by far the most popular VR devices. Could Valve be planning a Steam Deck that somewhat integrates into a VR headset, one that simultaneously reduces the cost of investing in VR hardware and makes it easier to use? Or perhaps just a Steam Deck with enough graphical power to push a tethered VR headset, such as the Valve Index.
Whatever Valve's plans are, Newell says "We're not really there yet." But it seems like a second Steam Deck is very much in the pipelines regardless."
