Not related to your question but once I referred a friend for the monthly but I did not get the $8 store credit because my friend bought the monthly as a gift and not for himself even though he just joined the humble bundle as a new member.

Nope, the gifted person will receive the bonus.

Should work like that, but it doesn't. Tried it with the Hunie Sekai bundle, bought it with my subbed account and the giftee didn't receive the humble wallet bonus (and neither did my subbed account). Maybe it was a glitch or something, but don't go by what the description says.
I think the giftee is supposed to be subbed as well, if it wasn't a glitch when I did it then it's just poorly worded.
EDIT: And yes, I know how to get the bonus. It says "This order would have added $2 to your Humble Wallet. Subscribe to Humble Monthly now for future rewards!" on the giftee account
