Where would you play your games?
Its the only legit way to buy games in Russia (almost) officially

I can't buy games on Steam with external money (available wallet only), i can't buy on GOG, Ubisoft etc.
And yes, I'm always living in Russia
Comment has been collapsed.
Nothing really different is happening. I don't own luxery yachts and houses on the coast of Mediterranian Sea so all these "hard" sanctions barelly affect a regular russians. We are banned from recieving some goods, some other goods have increased price. But there is still a good selection of goods and everyone can choose what they can or want to afford.
I don't feel myself as a victim. But now I can clearly see that sticking to a single platform (not about games only) is a bad idea and that can easily limit you in 1 click

Yeah, but this is political really. I really don't understand why it's affecting a platform of entertainment. Although if there was no restrictions, then Steam and other platforms would be somewhat seen as evil or something. Any news that something is happening for your country that could potentially stop the conflict between Russia and Ukraine? Sorry, if I've brought this whole topic, but I've been somewhat curious about it.

Definitely GOG Galaxy 2.0. It is the best place to keep my games after Steam.

Yeah i agree. From game platforms definitely the worst support i experienced as well.

Xbox PC and Cloud, console i don't care so much,i'm not big fan of them
i can buy an xbox console only if\when one day it become "Open" same the steamdeck (allow all stores\services + modular internal thumbsitck pcbs same as the steamdeck etc.) but right now sadly xbox is not (and playstation\nintendo too not)

xgp,microsoft rewards,and better sales,than ps\nin

I'd likely do this as well. I get Xbox PC Game Pass free from MS Rewards, always earn more points than needed per month to renew sub, plus can redeem for Gift Cards on it too. Then GOG makes up for what may be missing.
Tho to be fair, I have a large library on most platforms. Those 2 would just be the ones I most commonly use, like right now it's Steam and Xbox.

" always earn more points than needed per month to renew sub"
This for me is not possible,
the max i can do is around $10β¬ at month hehe that is not enough for renew sub (but i'm not USA,usa make + points i know..)
but yes i can accumulate 2 months for have 20 and then get games on deal at https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/store/deals/games/pc
that btw it's a very big help i get more "big" games on that (yakuza, quantum break, vodoo vince, ffix etc.)
And for me is work also to make 3 differents accounts and then "Gift" the game to myself from the second and third account to the main\first account,it's not possible for me to make more than 3 because i don't have life-time to dedicate to it.

I know for me, although PC Game Pass in Canada is $12 a month, I can get it on rewards for 6800 points, despite a $5 Gift Card costing 4800 points. Without calculating daily streak rewards, or random promotional or event punch cards... I get about 6600 a month on average. So as long as I don't miss a day, I should be good to go every month.
In the end though, I won't always renew the PCGP, depends on whether or not I want to play something on it at that time. Recently it was just for Medieval Dynasty. If I'm just not in the mood to play anything on it at a given time, I'll not renew and save points for Gift Cards later for games since I'd rather own them outright. Right now I have over 17k points, prob not gonna renew next month, just continue to collect. That way I can also occasionally get the 3 months for $1 promos on it due to not being an active customer.
But yah, even if you can't get the Game Pass every month, getting games with so little effort is nice, Game Pass is more a now and then thing anyway.

totally agree with you,is very big value, also is a good way to try games for know if is worth buy or not.

This question comes up on Steam forums regularly although I find it hard to believe there wouldn't be a buyer for Steam - if for the sake of argument - Valve would go bankrupt.
I'd be forced to invest in a 100 Terabyte storage solution to install all my 13k Steam games locally. Playing them wouldn't be a problem as there exists a Steam emulator allowing to play every Steam game offline and a lot of games don't even use Steam DRM.
As a cautious consumer I already have a sizable library on GOG too so I wouldn't be without games even if Valves goes to hell in an instant.

It's a question everyone asks themselves once in a while. I never checked there the threads, and we are blessed here with so many options for the poll it's crazy. π

That's really smart. I've not thought about that. π€©

They'd have to blow it up somehow big time to hit bankruptcy. I doubt they would get themselves into serious issues. There's smart people working for the company. Besides, it would be a hard blow for PC gamers all over the world. It's like Android/Apple iOS or Windows/macOS/Linux would all the sudden stop functioning. π€

This. As long as you have all your games installed locally, I imagine it wouldn't be too difficult to patch or crack the steam drm to allow all your games to be playable offline. The question is, would Valve give us enough heads up and time to make the transition? As long as it doesn't shut down instantly due to some unearthly crisis, I imagine the shutdown will be all over the news.

We have to include all options here. Some people may not like Origin, Ubisoft Connect or Rockstar Games, but the option is there to begin with. π
Besides, there's still people wanting to use it and I don't have an issue with it, just that it's not my personal preference. Although I've got more games there than GOG, I'd never go for it for the simple fact that it's not as close to Steam as GOG is.
Btw, why do you hate the Epic so much? Something happened? π€

The: "Shouldn't be a option to begin with"
Wasn't related to the poll - it was more related to the Gamers. Not a single gamer should click on EGS in the poll. I should've clarified that sorry :)
EGS is the plague of PC Gaming - absolute disease. Take Fortnite and Free games out of the store and it will vanish into oblivion because.. there are no features to begin with on that store anyways.

It's true that it lacks a lot of features Steam or GOG has, but would it be reasonable to hate it that much for it?

Yes because of several other reasons:

Check out this thread in order to get a small picture of what is going on. Check this out:
Epic Games founder Tim Sweeney his comparing his fight with a black person fighting for civil rights / getting treated as an equal:

Thatβs gotta be one of the most amazing false equivalency arguments ever made. A CEO of a billion dollar company claiming the fact he has to pay a store to distribute his product is like the fight for a black person to be treated as an equal human.

Ouch, that video on the discussion just hit hard. π
Personally I am not affected, by Epic. I would not pick it for the same reasons that it doesn't offer enough features and now that you've offered more info, I can decide not to go for it unless that would be my last option.
Comment has been collapsed.
The Problem with EGS mainly is that it lacks several normal features even after all these years and takes away your choice on where you want to buy.
Just because you take the freebies you also support this behavior. Every visit on the store, every free game taken is a +1 for them and soon (maybe) your favorite franchise falls into the hands of EGS because they go to your favorite publisher with:
"Hey do you see this traffic? all these big numbers on our store? yeaaah here take the fortnite kids money and put your game exclusive here" and they accept.
The problem is lying exactly there. I don't support this no matter what and its steam or nothing for me. Thats my "home" and where my main library is. More infos:

I can see what you mean, from a marketing perspective it makes sense. But mainly game devs are gamers too. Publishers probably too and they know Epic pretty much for what it is. The reason why they still go for it is that Steam charges a larger percentage off of sales. Although, Epic can't compete with the sales made on Steam. Even if the games are on Sales, overall, the developers make significantly a good amount of money even over years.
I also want my PC games in one spot. I appreciate GOG doing the GOG Galaxy, but it's still not directly Steam, so I'm only using it to activate free games I won for GOG, like for Epic.
Let me ask you this? What if Epic would eventually implement the things people want? And really take a more positive outlook and favor gamer consumer? Would gamers, including yourself, consider going for it? Try to think deeply about this question and don't use your bias thoughts about it. I'd say, most people would, if they actually gave the gamers what they are used to. Steam and GOG already got it. It's up to Epic to stop being so egoistic and do it.

β I personally wouldn't because of several other reasons. Even if Epic would implement all bare-bones Store Features and would make all the features people want from Steam - there are other things I would consider as well:
and despite all that: Steam is not taking 30% for most publishers anymore:
https://www.theverge.com/2018/11/30/18120577/valve-steam-game-marketplace-revenue-split-new-rules-competition
Games like Cyberpunk already tweeted MONTHS ago that they get 80% off of Cyberpunk.
80% off of my purchase is still 80% while on EGS its 0. If you, as a publisher, prefer way lower sales and 0% from me fine. I always can start my torrent launcher if I want to. They don't need that one little purchase anyways when they took the fortnite bribe money and since tim sweeney already paid for my copy why should I?
Why not compete naturally by lowering price? Like apple and android is doing but instead they take away all sort of competition because they take a game hostage in their own launcher. Nobody is competing there because its only available there and that is the worst "competition" and also anti-consumer.
No thanks.

Seems like an good argument.
I agree, I don't fancy NFT's and moving boat to another platform once I've established my ecosystem in one place. I never had an iPhone before, but I can see how Apple users feel the need to stay in the same loop. A lot of the things they are used to is like us with Steam.
Although, for me Steam is a lot better when it comes to pricing and how it offers stuff to players. Apple on the other hand feels like it's overcharging their consumers a lot too much, although they are great phones nonetheless.
Anyway, what I'm trying to say, if they would drop those things and no longer be part of Tencent and follow in the steps of Steam, I'd think they would probably get the respect they seek.
I'm also glad that Steam pays the developers better now. I've not read about it yet, but it's the right approach.

I would switch to gog, ubisoft, origin, epic, itch... And don't play games there instead of not playing games on steam...
Seriously-my backlog on other platforms is as big as this one on steam (not to mention cds and dvd's). Hell - I even have some games on tapes for C-64... and I don't have C-64 anymore xD

Not sure if there is a reason to back up everything though.
Maybe I have more than 2k games on different platforms... But how many of them are worth replaying? Or worth to show them to next generation?
Not to mention, that it's gonna be harder and harder to run them on newer computers and systems.
I suppose, that without "legacy" PC - playing half of my favourite games in 20 years would require to either buy new remastered version, or download half illegal emulator (just like right now with games that are not longer supported and you can't play them anywhere but still are copyrighted...)
In case that steam would case to exist I would probably back-up couple of titles and ignore rest of them.

True, but technology catches up somehow. I can see that Windows is still trying to play games from the 90s and early 2000.

For me, a remastered or remade version of a game is probably the best thing that ever happens to gaming industry. It brings back memories and makes me play games I've listed for playing and haven't had the chance because of my stupid large backlog.

Who knows what would happen with a lot of gamers. I think the old-school ones would retire from gaming all together.

I already play everywhere, so Steam not existing is just one less place to play. Although I would lose more than half of the games I own since I prefer the Steam ecosystem whenever I'm given a choice because it's well integrated into any game-centric app or website I want to use. The others, not so much. As for where I'd buy my games, it would be the place with the best sales or wherever bundles take me. After a while, I'd probably be more inclined to go with the most popular choice if given the choice because it will probably be better integrated than others.
Edit: oh, missed the "move" option. If I could move my steam games to my Nintendo Switch, that would be some serious magic. And since we're talking magic, I'll assume they'll run just as well as they do on PC, so yeah, Nintendo would be the most versatile choice.

Probably the main reason why most of people prefer Steam is because they have been kinda smoothly driven towards Steam due to the features, community and bundles and deals really.

Hi,
Where would you store your games and play from if Valve decided to no shutdown Steam? But before that, they would allow you to move all your games there.
A lot of options, I know, but what would be your number one platform where you'd horde your games if you had the chance to do the transfer?
Personally, GOG would be my first go-to. It's the closest we can get to Steam, as there are reviews and achievements I think and it's on PC still.
Other is for those who want to mention something I missed. π
Have a good day!
