Yeah. I thought about that also. I am checking the winners profile always, when I've create a giveaway.
In my opinion SG should delete the option to synch the account manualy and create an automatic-synch instead of it. (All 5hours or suchlike)...

for those with a private profile it has an automatic mandatory sync every 6 days or something(haven't been paying attention but feels about that so far)gotta do it or lose the ability to use steamgfits or enter giveaways
the manual sync is just to let you do it more often

there are also lots of issues with acc sync and giveaways..for example lots of ppl have problems to enter ga for shogun2 dlc, even when they have the main game and on the other side i for example can enter ck2 expansions like sword of islam, rome etc. even i own them allready...so better always check the winners games-inventory.

I think SG should sync the account automatically.
Maybe someone have a game,let's say for example : CS GO and enter a giveaway with the same game --by mistake!!!!
If he wins, my opinion is that he should GET the game...maybe it's his 1000+ giveaway and his first win...it's not his problem , he won.

hey look, my bank accidentally gave me thousands of dollars, i'll spend it however i want, it wasn't my mistake but the banks.
few weeks later and the bank traces the money to you and it's all gone.
guess who is in trouble, but like you said, it's the bank's fault and you should keep the money and not pay it back.

SG actually is automatically syncing your account, but it does it every week or so, I believe. I think the system might work better if SG synced every time you win a giveaway, to be more precise: when you mark the gift as received. That would prevent people from winning multiple copies of the same game. And if you didn't activate the game on your own account, that's too bad. You wouldn't be able to win another copy from this site.

Technically the mods can see all private giveaways, so if you dont activate a game you've one they can ban you.
I say technically cause I have no idea about how often either of those situations happen. Do you know people cheat using private giveaways or are you just suspicious that it happens?

Private giveaways are cheating?? Surely you don't mean all forum/puzzle giveaways. Do you mean these instances where people create private giveaways and only share them with a couple of their friends, and the winner regifts that game to these friends again?? These are against the SG rules, we can all agree on that.

I think he means just like the op's fears that somebody with a private steam could win a game and then regift it to get free contributor value(and his frustration at being unable to snoop and make sure), somebody with a private givaway(could be wrong but think I read that you only need 2 or 3 entries for it to count for contributor value) could just get a circle of 3 people to pretend to give away games and pretend they were received(except that the private profile needs to actually win and can only very inefficiently mine cv but the tiny group could get a ton and a long as they're careful it'd be hard to catch on(what is one of the group going to report themselves?) without the system comparing wins vs library automatically)
Or they could get 2 friends who'll buy the game for themselves, make a private giveaway for it and whoever "won" just pretends he got it from steamgifts. That'd skirt an automatic scan too.

Are there any hard numbers about how often this kind of thing actually happens? I see people complaining about it a lot, but most of the time its just hypotheticals. I dunno, without a systemic amount of real cases it seems like the system as it is works pretty well.

I'm a complete noob whos only been here a few weeks and I know it makes you sync.
a better thing to say(since the above suggestion already is) would be that it should flag anything confirmed as received one week to be checked against the next week's sync data.(so if you win wednesday, sync friday, mark as received tuesday and sync thursday it'll know if you redeemed the key or traded it away.
or if thats too much more of a load than what it already does to keep you from entering givaways you already own(you only check whats new and only once but thres alot of people so depending on how it stores things?), could just compromise and make the data available for support/mods so it can get checked if the guy gets reported or does something suspicious(win today give same tomorrow with private profile). or if that'd waste too much mod time could just make the owned list showable or something i donno(it'd let you show what you have as of last sync without having to expose your actual steam account so requests to confirm key use would seem less invasive).

I haven't read anywhere that the auto sync was every 6 days. I'm sure others didn't know either. It tells you that it syncs automatically, but when you see that your last sync was 5 days ago, you begin to think something is broken. The wording on the account sync page needs to be clearer on this.
I like the idea of flagging accounts that don't add their wins to their accounts within a week of receipt confirmation.

I've seen it be up to 10 days ago. It does seem to auto sync, but definitely not as often as the site implies it is.
