Hi SG, we're rolling out some updates to our trade section in the next 24 hours. These changes are mostly geared towards the separation of trades to SteamTrades.com, and improving on the feedback system. No major changes to the core of the trading system are happening in this particular update and the site will still maintain the familiar discussion based format. However, like most users, I'd like to see improvements in that area in the near future. Below is the upcoming announcement to be listed on SteamTrades.com, highlighting some of the more noteworthy changes.

User Reputation for All Steam Users

To help SteamTrades continue to grow as a leader in Steam user reputation, our site now allows reputation to be written for every individual with a Steam account. To leave a review for a user, simply visit our homepage and search for a Steam user using their Steam ID, Steam vanity name, or Steam profile URL. Once forwarded to their SteamTrades profile, you'll see an input box at the bottom of their profile allowing you to leave a review regarding your trading experience together.

Replies to Negative Reviews

If a user has left a negative review on your profile, SteamTrades now allows you to write a public reply to their review. This way you can better inform users visiting your profile about why that review exists, and at the same time it provides you with an opportunity to share additional details the user might have excluded from their review. Below a negative review on your profile you'll see a Reply button, which you can click to add your reply. Please note, replies are only available for negative reviews.

Negative Review Voting

To help improve the quality of negative reviews and to help remove negative reviews that do not meet our standards, we added a voting page, where users can vote on negative reviews from others in the community. Using the guidelines listed, users can vote on whether a negative review should be allowed, or whether it should be removed from our site. Reviews will be automatically removed if decided on by the community.

User Profiles and Safety Check

User profiles now contain a safety check. This data is updated hourly, and helps you to be aware of any Steam infractions a user may have against their account (such as VAC or game bans). As well, user profiles show when a user registered on Steam, when they were last logged into Steam, their Steam level, and their game count (if their Steam account is public). Combined with our user reviews, this data can help you better determine a user's overall reputation before trading.

Design and Interface

Our entire site has been redesigned and recoded with a wide variety of improvements. The changes allows for quicker replies, and overall faster load times. Our database is now separate from our sister site, SteamGifts. Users with previous trades or reputation have been automatically moved to our new site. However, with separate databases, this will mean usernames on SteamTrades may differ from those on SteamGifts, and suspensions on one site do not affect usage on the other. For that reason, profiles on SteamTrades link to Steam IDs, rather than usernames to help avoid confusion.

Where do you see your name on the ST profile? I don't see mine at all, unless I go into a trade thread. Seems weird.

Yeah, that's weird. Looks like it uses the SG name? But can someone log in to ST without being a member on SG? What would their username be in that case?

Those should be removed.

Remove reviews that...

  • Do not sufficiently describe their trading experience, but rely on general statements (e.g. "Scammer", "-Rep", "Bad Trader").

I agree about the uneasy feeling. The guidelines clearly say we're supposed to downvote those feedbacks that don't provide any evidence, but I'm not sure I'm comfortable with that. I would have no problem if some site-approved system deleted such reviews, so as to ensure consistency in the system, but putting that off onto end-users doesn't seem right to me.

Yeah, looking at the way it's set up there's absolutely no context to determine if it's a legit report.

Looking at the false negative I received, someone could not determine if it's real or fake under that system.

The feedbacks shown to me in "Vote on Reviews" have to be some kind of test, right? They're couldn't be real, I mean, they're so obvious in mimicking the guidelines. And real feedbacks just don't look like that...

People who got a permanent suspension are still permanent banned in the new SteamTrades? And how they look like in their SteamTrade profile?

Dear TempeteJoachim, please help me with something. :/
I have a question!
You're saying to allow reviews that explain the reasoning behind their negative trading experience.
That's too generic though! Even if they have traded and everything went well, if they leave negative feedback saying that the other person was impolite and explain why, then we can allow this feedback?
I would be thankful if you would answer my question. :)

According to Rinarin it is not ok :

https://www.steamtrades.com/trade/af3y1/misuse-of-feedback-impersonators-alert

Feedback should NOT be used for :

  • Comments such as "rude", "lowballer", "regifter" and so on. This is trade and not attitude related feedback.

So, I can only accept reviews about scammers (edit: oh, impersonators too)? I don't see how else to accept negative feedback then! Also, I see many negative feedbacks being like "scammer - (steamrep link here)" and the guy is indeed reported for fraud on steamrep. I can accept these reviews too, even though they only show a steamrep link and say that the other guy is a scammer? This my last question. Thanks in advance. :D

Permalink

Yes, basically it should be used when one party fulfilled his part of the trade and the other party didn't follow through.
A SR link is fine if the contents of the report would constitute a valid negative review here.

Only a handful of reports are valid describe the whole trade and say "I gave him blah blah and he didn't give me blah blah". Even fewer have actual proof. We don't need full proof to allow it, right? o.O

No, basically we're just weeding out the crap comments from the legitimate-looking report.

A guy said below:

I'm kind of confused what qualifies under "Explain the reasoning behind their negative trading experience". For example, I just saw these:
"Scammer. Don't trade with him. He stole my Assassin's Creed 3 and wanted ANOTHER one."
"This guy is a scammer, he took the game and did not pay"
By the most generous definition, those both explain the reasoning behind leaving the negative rep, but there's no proof or further details, are those legitimate negative rep examples or not?

So, can we allow reviews like these ones? I would allow the first one, since it actually says that the guy stole Assassin's Creed 3 and asked for another key, probably saying that it's not working or it's duplicate. The second one doesn't say anything to describe the trade, so how is it any different from the generic "scammer" reviews?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Those two I would allow because there's at least some kind of explanation, even if it's not very detailed.

I've been skipping quite a lot of them though because I'm on the fence about whether it's actually helpful or not. Still, it's easy to remove all the "rude", "lowball offers", etc..

I disagree though. If they don't even say anything about the games traded, then what's the difference of "scammer" with "he scammed me from my game and went offline"? They're the same thing. Example:
1) "Scammer"
2) "He scammed me from my game"
3) "He scammed me from my game and he didn't give me what he promised"
The first one is a completely generic comment that you wouldn't allow. What about the 2nd one? Isn't it generic too? It looks a lot like the first one, is that correct? So, you wouldn't allow that too. What about the 3rd one? It's just like the 2nd one, but he also says he didn't give him the key he promised. But that's obviously what the 2nd guy obviously meant. So, would you allow the review of the 3rd guy, but not the review of the 2nd guy? You see what I mean now? I consider all 3 of them too generic.

First of all, we can only allow reviews about scammers and impersonators. I don't think though that we need full proof to allow it, since we're not steamrep. As long as he describes what happened in the trade, then it's ok. Just a simple "scammer" isn't a reason. Even a "scammed me from my game" isn't allowed, I suppose. But "I gave him Homefront and he didn't give me GTA IV as he promised" can be a valid review, in my opinion. They just need to describe what happened. :/
Still, I hope that a support member will answer too. xD

Well "he took the key and did not pay" is an explanation of some sort (they presumably agreed on a trade, he sent the key and then the other party took it and didn't pay/trade back), whereas "scammer" is definitely not. Whether it's a good explanation is another matter.

Holy cow ... now i get why the voting system was implemented - wth so many negative feedbacks (1 / 2 word ones + ones that shouldn't go into trade feedback to begin with). Utterly useless without being able to check on both users accessing their "approximate credibility" which works most of the time. Unfortunately even more specific ones are hard/impossible to access without proof links/logs ... the usual.

Other than that - looks darn fancy (sleek & stylish) > great jobbu. As for the search function - works well enough for my needs.

The "vote" for negative reviews is useless if you don't know the context of the trade, there might be a legitimate negative review that isn't detailed but it looks as if its a driveby negative review

Hi, its possible that im getting the same "review to review" twice or more times? Or is just the destiny.
Also, if you see some pictures of people you could see that some reviews are from more than 3 years ago, maybe that doesnt matter but now you know :D
If you dont know which reviews you should accept , just limit to accept reviews with photos and some info about the scammer.
