I just watched the second day of E3 with the girlfriend. Microsoft announced 50! new games during their showcase. There were so many good ones announced, like a new Tomb Raider and Just Cause. I'm not sure if I'll actually buy any of them, but they look great and I'll probably at least end up watching gameplay when they release.

What are your thoughts on the games shown so far?

So, i'd like give my personal rundown about the conferences.

The EA showcase was the most predictable one and also quite boring to watch. Too much talking, buzzwords, PR bullshit that nobody really cares, the games were already known before E3 and even the indie section failed to impress me. Unravel 2 looks generic as fuck and Sea of PMS seems like a walking simulator. Also sports, sports, sports. Anthem was the most interesting one to me, but the trailer wasn't very well made: they didn't put any effort into showing the most interesting features, like aerial combat and vertical level design. Command & Conquer Mobile was a final middle finger to all C&C fans.

The Microsoft conference, after years of stupid shit, few exclusives and kinect really impressed me. They armed themselves with a machinegun and fired one trailer after the another, without wasting time with PR stuff. New games, we got to see some gameplay, finally some exclusives, Gears 5 even seems fun, Ori looks splendid, Forza Horizon is always welcomed by me, basically there was something enjoyable to everyone. Shooters, action adventure, hack n' slash, strategy, racing, platform, open world, etc. It was a refreshing showcase and a really surprising one, maybe because of the low expectations. Cyberpunk 2077 closed the conference with style.

Bethesda teased TES6 and Starfield without even giving a release year, so they might as well not even exist to me. Todd Howard spent way too much time jerking off on the stage, i won't even acknowledge that Fallout 76 exists and lul mobile games. Rage 2 looks fun (but they could have spared us the little concert on stage) and thank god for the new Doom and Wolfenstein sequels.

Devolver Digital made a fun meme to watch, but... where the hell are the games? What about Serious Sam 4?

Square Enix conference wasn't even a conference: it was a Youtube playlist of trailers. We saw a predictable (but nice nonetheless) gameplay of Shadow of the Tomb Raider, the same trailer again of KH3 from Microsoft showcase, Platinum's new game is a Platinum game, The Quiet Man seems nice, overall it was okayish, but i was expecting more. Where are the Avengers game and Left Alive, dammit?

Honorable mention to the Limited Run Games guys: they made a little fake 3D theatre and recorded themselves in front of a green screen showing some retail releases for PS4, Vita and Switch of great indie games. They tried and succeded in infusing some old school marketing with that little budget, putting effort in their work even if almost nobody gave a fuck about them.

Ubisoft did what they know best: let me down. We already saw The Division 2 before, Assassin's Creed Odyssey is the usual Assassin's Creed, awkward people dancing on stage, VIPs that don't even know what the fuck they are talking about, an embarrassed Miyamoto that didn't really wanted to be there, Ubisoft gonna Ubisoft. At least Beyond Good & Evil 2 and Trials Rising were nice.

The PC Gamer show wasn't really interesting to watch, but at least they announced some ports, and porting console games on PC is always a good thing. Yakuza fans are happy.

The Sony conference was the main reason i was watching E3 and they somehow managed to piss me off. Yes, we've got to see some gameplay, but they didn't announce a release date for ANYTHING aside Spiderman and we STILL don't know what the fuck Death Stranding is about. The Last Of Us 2 seems great, while Ghosts of Tsushima honestly looks average, graphics aside. Enemies attack once at a time, the level was a straight corridor and didn't show anything other than the protagonist slashing people. Still a better effort than Spiderman, where enemies didn't even TRIED to attack, reinforcing my impression that it will be a "press X to win" game with glorified cinematics. Knowing that Remedy is developing another game was nice though.
Also one thing that really struck to me is that there is zero variety in the current Sony lineup: all third person action games, even the RE2 Remake has RE4 style. I don't really mind much, but what if someone doesn't like action games? What if i want to play a Gran Turismo that's not shitty? And where the fuck are the Medievil and Spyro remasters?

The Nintendo Treehouse was easily the worst of the bunch. They started good by quick firing trailers and revealing a couple of new japanese games that i don't give a shit of, but hey, everything counts as long as they bolster Switch sales. Then they decided that, somehow, everyone who bought a Switch will want to play Smash and Smash only, so they spend 30 minutes talking about it. As a Smash fan it was nice that they listened to the community and put every suggestion into the game, but it wasn't the SMASH TREEHOUSE, it was supposed to be the NINTENDO TREEHOUSE. I wanted to see new games and release date, not a glorified patch note that i might have watched anyway on Youtube later. What about Yoshi? What about Metroid? What about some new ip that's not a weebgame?

Overall it was a fun E3 to watch, but not a really surprising one. No new big revelations, very few release dates, few surprises, most games were already been revealed or leaked days before and we didn't get to know more about promising games like Cyberpunk 2077 and Death Stranding.
