Sigh. How many teams have we seen play this way? Defending, not putting many men forward, afraid to attack in the slightest because of the risk of a counter-attack. Content to go to penalties. That was Poland for more than an hour. It can make sense when playing a superior opponent, but Portugal were their equals at best. They did well in PKs against Switzerland, but there is quite a bit of luck involved with PKs. Why not try to win?

And to make it worse, Quaresma dares the ref to whistle him for a start-stop / false start / whatever you call it. And gets away with it.

Just like any sport, if you play not to lose, you seldom win.
